I had many wonderful summers there. My friends and I had a summer house on Ocean Beach and Ocean Bay Park. Summer crowd when you are youger is great! Either place in between did not seem trashy but I was only there for the summer.

None of it is "trashy". A few towns get lots of people in the early 20's who are there to to go the bars, meet other single people, etc. so they get a little rowdy. Other parts are quieter with less day-trip visitors.

I love it there. I had a summer house in Ocean Bay Park & that's where I met DH. I didn't think it was trashy. Laid back much different from the Hamptons.

Davis Park is very family-oriented...It's great there! There is one bar/restaurant called the Casino, which is alot of fun!

I had a summer share house there for a couple of years. While I wouldn't call it trashy, Ocean Bay Park does have the nickname Ocean Bay Trailer Park.  And yes, that's where my house was.

I think towns like Ocean Beach, Ocean Bay Park and Kismet may get a bad name cuz there is a lot of drinking, but with houses starting at like $600K it's not trashy. There are a ton of towns that are either family oriented like Davis Park and/or just quiet like Saltaire.
IMO, it's a beautiful summer getaway no matter where you go, but I don't really go to Ocean Beach anymore cuz it gets too young - I'm officially old

There is no part of Fire Island that is "trashy". It's a great place to go and very underestimated by people who have never been there.
