Need your thoughts...
I am a little sad because I've come to a realization that I should not purchase the house FI and I fell in love with this past sunday.... the house is gorgeous, huge lot, but it's in Freeport and I've been getting not so good feedbacks about the SD there....
so... I think I am going to make an offer on the other house I saw and liked in Seaford... this house is in not so great shape, the floors are rotted underneath the nasty carpets, however, it has lots of potential as the area and the size of the property... we are planning to offer 50k below their asking price, because the house really need some work!.. but I can see it being wonderful once it's all fixed up
thoughts and advice welcome!! thanks!!

Re: Need your thoughts...
I would much rather buy a house in a good area and school district that needs a little work!

Re: Need your thoughts...
Scott, this is the split. The one next to the Getty station we are not even going to consider.

Re: Need your thoughts...
When are you putting in the offer?
I was just looking at the split, it has a lot of possibilities. My sister in law lives in a split, but hers is blown up, and back.....They put a huge master bedroom suite on the top floor....
Nice open lay out too....

FH and I own a split in Seaford! We love our split, lots of potential....we also live on an awesome piece of property! We did alot of renovations after we bought it, so let me know if you need help! Hey, you never know, maybe we could be neighbors!! Good Luck with everything!

Re: Need your thoughts...
I teach in Seaford. It is a high property tax district because they have virtually no commercial real estate to bear the burden of the school tax. We are on a contigency (aka. used to be called austerity) budget because the residents voted down the smallest budget increase proposed of any LI district last year. The houses have much higher taxes versus the same house in a neighboring district... just want to make sure you know that.
That being said we have A LOT of budget problems. Special ed costs are mandated and they seem to be taking more and more out of the regular ed budget. There is also very high turnover in administrators and teachers considering we are the second lowest paid in the county.
I know you mentioned school district. Yes, it's better than Freeport but just want to let you know that Seaford, unfortunately, is not the same district that it was 10 years ago. I really hope this changes but it is on a down-swing.
FM me if you have any more questions. I've been there 8 years.
