Nick the squirrel
On Saturday, I was decorating, and I thought i saw a movement in the fireplace,...then I saw it again...and had my finest drama queen moment screaming "there's an animal in the fireoplace"....DH determined it was a squirrel (he fell down the chimney)
long story short,
we called an exterminator, who wanted $425 for a weekend visit...i would have gladly paid it, but DH decided to hold off. My BIL has a humane trap, so my sister and BIL came over. The 2 men did the deed, while the 2 ladies went shopping.
They called us when they were done - when I got home the 2 men were sitting drinking beers and "Nick" (since he came down the chimney) was in the trap eating a banan and peanut butter.
Then DH released him at Jones Beach ... we need to get a chimney cap
not my finest moment at all..but thank God he is gone

Re: Nick the squirrel
That is so funny. Glad you were able to get rid of it humanely AND without paying $425

This part cracked me up
We found two mummified/skeletons (I wasn't around to see) of squirrels in one of our chimneys
Yes, call for a cap right away

OMG...that is too funny...about him eating!!
Definitely get a cap and make sure you close the flu after every use of the fireplace!! My parents had a little guy come into the house years ago because we didnt close the flu all the way!! what a mess of the house he made!!
