Arranging my living room

with a baby grand piano, an electric fireplace and a sofa chair/ottoman.

I used this room layout guide on bhg.com and then scanned it to be able to show everyone.

This is my room...the window is on the right next to the front door. The openings to the dining room and kitchen are labeled. I don't know where to put that baby grand...I feel like if I put it by the front window...I'll take away light coming in...but I also can't put it in the entryway by the dining room because it will look like I'm blocking it off. Also the fireplace is electric so I can put it anywhere.

I need some advice...

That is really neat!

The only thing I can think of is angling the baby grand so that the big rounded end points towards the corner- I don't really know where else you can put it. Long narrow rooms like that are a challenge- our LR has similar dimesions and it was a PITA figuring out how to arrange it.

Re: Arranging my living room

I would angle the piano into the corner.

Would the fireplace fit on the wall between the DR and Kitchen? Then you have plenty of open space for seating.

Hmmm, I didn't even think of putting the fireplace there. I'm not sure how wide that wall is.

Re: Arranging my living room

angling the piano is a good idea, but im not sure how that would look with the bay window.

your house is the exact layout of mine - we have a regular fireplace and its in the position where you have yours, so i would leave that there...

we have a grandfather clock againt the wall inbetween the kitchen and DR...

i think you have it the best way you can...unless you put the piano where the fireplace is and move the fireplace...

Re: Arranging my living room

I would suggest not putting the baby grand by the window where the sunligt is hitting it...

We have a Steinway grand and my Dh says not to have sunlight hitting it because it would damage the piano.

Re: Arranging my living room

I think that the piano should be caddy cornered - other than that everything else seems to work.
