Can we contact the seller on our own?-UPDATE!
We put an offer on a home but we feel the agent is trying to make us increase our offer for the agent's benefit. Would it be improper to approach the seller directly instead of going through the agent? I really don't trust that woman! Thanks Wanda

Re: Can we contact the seller on our own?
which agent do you feel is not being above board?
YOURS? or theirs?
IMO i think it would be improper...
Stick to you offer and see what they say...If you feel that the agent isn't telling the sellers the bids you are making...i believe you can make the agent get it in writing..

Re: Can we contact the seller on our own?
I would definitely not contact the seller. If you don't trust their agent, I would get your own - but in the end all agents work for the sellers whether its your agent or theirs.

Re: Can we contact the seller on our own?
Sorry I didn't mention it before but it is the sellers agent. Thanks for your opinion. We will stick with our offer and see what happens.

My DH and I are going thru the exact same thing. I think we made a reasonable offer and this agent was nothing but trying to get us to offer $$. I have a very shady feeling from him.
ETA: I really wanted to contact the seller just to let them know what a shady, nasty agent they listed the home with. In all honesty, the sellers have no idea how the agent treats potential buyers.

If you are negotiating, i wouldnt contact the agent on my own.
we have an accepted offer (and probably signed contracts by now) and Ive called the sellers agent on my own - she is actually very honest and a great person to work with, we are very lucky!

Re: Can we contact the seller on our own?
When we were selling we had potential buyers that requested to speak with us directly. When this happened - both agents were present (theirs was on with them and ours was with us, we were all on a phone call).
I think that the buyers didnt believe that we had a higher offer, when in fact we did, and that's why they wanted to tell us their offer directly. I think that if you want to speak to them directly, you should tell their agent and I cant see why they wouldnt oblige.

Re: Can we contact the seller on our own?
It's not really appropriate to contact the seller directly if there's an agent involved.

DH doesn't trust the sellers agent at all! I wish we didn't have to deal with her but unfortunately we can't avoid it now.
A part of me wants to get our own agent so he/she could deal with her but at this point, I don't think it will make things easier for us.
Thanks again everyone. :)

Re: Can we contact the seller on our own?
You are not really supposed to contact the seller BUT we did for one house we wanted. The sellers had already accepted our offer and their lawyer had our deposit. We had to work out some contract terms, mostly having to do with the swimming pool. When it seemed like they were stalling and there was no movement and no signed contract, we finally called the seller directly. It was then that we realized that they had more than one deposit (totally illegal) and they were just keeping us around in case the other closing fell through. We IMMEDIATELY pulled out of the deal, but they were about to anyway. If we hadn't called, it would have just delayed our finding out that we were not getting that house.
After that we did our bidding through a broker and we did not contact any sellers on our own. We placed time constraints on the deal right from the start. We basically told them not to accept our offer unless we could have a signed contract within X days. As it turns out, for the house we got, that showed the sellers that we were serious.
I have no regrets about calling the seller. Everyone on his end was playing games, but he was the one who slipped about having 2 people's deposits. And after that we did not look at any houses that were listed with the broker who knowingly allowed their seller to accept 2 offers.
