Have you even spent New Years Eve apart from your SO

we just found out my DH has to work new years eve. I am sad and would have rather him worked christmas, than to miss ringing in the new year together (1st one married too)

Have you ever spent it apart from your SO?

No.

But mine is working 9-5 on New Years Eve and 9-5 on New Years Day and I am preggo, so I think we will be the most boring couple in America on New Years!!

DH & I were apart last New Year's Eve. He had to work in Boston and I ended up home with a fever by myself. Let's just say it wasn't a happy new year for me.

This will be the 2nd year that DH and I will not be together for New Years Eve. I spent it with my family last year and this year I will be doing the same. Last year, he came home around 1 am and this year we can eat dinner together at least but he will not be home until the next morning.

Does not speaking to each other count? We were both physically home, but not in the same room. Let's just say it wasn't the best way to ring in the new year.

Yes, so far...two yrs in a row.

Life of cop...DH had to work that nite.
No getting out of it.

So, I enjoy it with my friends who happen to be in the same situation.

ok, so at I am not the only one....we new there would be times like this. and I am ok with celebrating holidays and birthdays when we can, but I guess new years is a holiday you can't really do a different time.

I look at NYE as another night out though. If DH and I can't spend it together we pick another night and go crazy. Maybe that's something you could do? Like your own private holiday, your own private NYE?

Not yet, but this year is questionable.

I'm sad about it.

If I were you I'd visit him at the hospital.

Same here. DH always has to work New Years (or any holiday for that matter). It s*cks, but after a while, you start to get used to it and appreciate the holidays you do have together more.

Re: Have you even spent New Years Eve apart from your SO

We spent our first three NYE apart when we were dating long distance.

We have spent the past three together but he is working this year so we will be apart again.

Yes....I have had to work overnight in the hospital many years, including our 1st married NYE. I am usually able to call either at or close to midnight. Its not fun but also not such a big deal---I was never big on NYE anyway so I would volunteer to work it and be off the overnight in between christmas eve and day. To me that is a more important night to have off.

TIVO the ball dropping and have it all over again! Get champagne and cook a yummy dinner another night and celebrate.

I know it stinks, I've learned to live with it. We've know each other 17 years and we've been together only 3 out of 17. We do have a good time the next day usually..

There ya go..make it your own NYE just a different day. Get noise makers and wear a hat that says happy New Year. Maybe get goofy 2007 sun glasses..you get the idea.

It's worked for us.

Yes, and I will again this year. Unfortunately its part of the military lifestyle to miss these kinds of things from year to year.
