Re: Tipping for the holidays?

I barely see my super, or call him for help with anything - $20

mailman - bottle of wine or something like that. Technically, they're not supposed to accept monetary gifts of more than $20, I think. Not that mine would follow that rule!

Last year, I got her a nice bottle of hand cream and left it in my mailbox with a bow. She didn't take it. guess she didn't like it, because she took the wine and such that others gave her.

I have the best cleaning lady! I'm going to tip either 1x or 2x what I pay per visit.

We have a house so no super, sorryChat Icon
But, you aren't supposed to give the mailman $$$, so last year I gave ours a grocery store gift card for $25 - this year I may just do a Visa gift card.

Oh, and we give the garbage men $20 each and a 12 pack of beer - the payoff is HUGE, they take everything we put out!Chat Icon

Bumping one more time for more responses. I don't know what is appropriate. We've tipped him when he's helped us.

i also give the garbage men $20 each. i like the beer idea as well. how do you leave it for them?

nadda for the mail lady because after a year and a half of leaving her numerous notes she STILL gives me the wrong mail.

Re: Tipping for the holidays?

We just moved into our house in august. I was thinking about tipping the garbage men. But they come so early, how do you see them. Should i ask the neighbors?

Re: Tipping for the holidays?

We have 4 fulltime and 2 partime doormen and plan to break it down by those who are most helpful etc.

As of right now the plan is:
$50 each for 2 evening doormen
$25 each for 2 daytime doormen
$50 for the Super
$25 for each of the 2 porters
We are considering giving a token item to the 2 partime doormen.
$20 for the mailman
$65 for the cleaning girl

I may be cheaper to move!

Sorry to hijack. Do you sign your name to a card with the gift or just put an envelope with money in it?

I'll sign our names and put our apartment # on the card, too.
