Anyone reupholster a couch?

Isn't reupholster is a wierd word?

Anyway, has anyone done this? We have a really big L-shaped couch and are thinking of doing this when we move out of our aptmt.

Here's a pic... any idea on cost?

First off - I think it looks great the way it is! Maybe you can change the look with different color pillows and rug.

econd, I have never had it done, but I used to be a furniture buyer for Bloomingdales and from what I remember - it can be VERY expensive. It may be cheaper just to get a new couch.

I love the couch- I would try a less matchy matchy set of pillows and the rug

it will be much cheaper - that couch works with alot of stuff- what about brown and blue? so stylist and up to date

Re: Anyone reupholster a couch?

I am not positive, but it could very well cost more than buying a new one.

I wanted to have only the cushions made for a small couch and chair and it was going to cost $1000 + the cost of the fabric.

I like the couch though....where did you get it?

Re: Anyone reupholster a couch?

WOW, it's really expensive?? We definitely don't want another couch, we love this one.

I guess I should have explained in my original post that this couch is pretty beat up. The pic is about 2 years old (when we first got it)... that's why it looks so nice. hah.

Between our kitten clawing at it every chance she got (she's better now) and friends sleeping over on it (we only have a 1 bedroom apt), it's so worn. I wish it still looked how it does in the picture.

The pillows actually came with the couch and we already had the rug so that's why it's so matchy. The pillows have since been replaced.

Thanks, it's from Levitz. We got the floor model so we couldn't pass up that deal!

Re: Anyone reupholster a couch?

that makes sense

you can price it out- but you might be better off getting another one

we have a similar one in leather- and after 2 years it has seen better days- but I want to keep it for ever- it's just going to get downgraded from the living room to the den or basement room once we get a house

Re: Anyone reupholster a couch?

Nah, we don't want to sell it. It's so comfy!!!

Beth - we were thinking of doing the same thing. When we get a house this couch will be the "basement" couch and we will get a new one for the main living area. But, who knows when that will be...

I agree. That is a very nice couch. With a warmer color on the wall and some throws/pillows etc, it can spice up the room.

Reupholstering is very expensive when done right. There is a place right off the LIE around the Huntington area, Fabric Mill or something like that. You can see it to your right while traveling east on the LIE, a big place. They do reupholstering.
