Re: Rate these school districts

South Huntington is very good. I have friends who have kids at all levels of that district and there are tons of programs.

Huntington is not as good and has a greater minority population.

Harborfields and Elwood are smaller districts but also good.

Do a Google search and pull up the school report cards.

BTW, I am a teacher! :)

Re: Rate these school districts

I went to both Huntington & Harborfields. Huntington is not the best but there are worse. Harborfields is supposed to be good but as someone who went there, I was better off in Huntington. The parents & teachers are oblivious to what goes on in that school. It's like there in denial and don't want to admit there are problems god forbid it tarnish Their image.

Huntington Elementary & High are "ok" it's the jr. high that has the most problems.

If you are looking in that area you may want to consider Commack.

Either way you can go online and see all schools reports. You can see the drop out rates, % who go to college etc.

I personally would put them in this order:

Elwood #1
Harborfields #2
S. Huntington #3
Huntingto #4

Elwood is a fantastic school district at all levels.

I know the most about Elwood as my MIL is a retired teacher who still subs in the district.

I really can't speak from personal experience on any of the others. Keep in mind what happened 10 years ago in a district could be totally different now, for better or for worse, things change.

If you have any questions about Elwood I can pass them along to her.

Thanks, we actually are already in a great school district. I was asking for a friend so I'll let her know.Chat Icon
