Spinoff to Cousin or Aunt/Uncle ?
Did your SIL/BIL tell their children (your husband's nephews and nieces) to call you "aunt" before you got married?

They started when we got engaged. It was weird though because on of my nieces was 20.

Yes. I think it may have even been a little before we got engaged. It was a little strange to me since I wasn't an aunt and probably will never have a blood-related niece or nephew (sis not having kids).

My MIL kept pushing them too. I said No I they don't have to. I didn't feel they should be TOLD!
I met my DH when his nieces were 3 (twins) and 6 months. I was 14 so they were so young and didn't start out calling me aunt. They are 13 and 11 now.
BUT my SIL also has a 5 year old son who is my god child. She calls me Aunt Kristin in front of him. I guess cause he is so young he started out that way. KWIM

FSIL has a 16 mo old and just had twins and she referrs to me as Aunt Meaghan.
FH also has an 8 yo niece - i told her she doesnt have to call me aunt unless she doesnt want to - but i changed that kids diaper, lol.

The reason I ask is because we were together for almost 7 years when my SIL's son was born and I wasn't "aunt" then, and STILL after we got married I'm not. Her husband always has referred to me as "aunt" to their son though which is nice.

Yes and vice versa. With my little one on the way, I'd hope my little one can call my bil and sil "Aunt and Uncle".

My older nieces and nephew called DH by his name. The little one called him "uncle" before hand.

yes...but we were engaged
same here. my DH's niece asked me the very first time I met her if I was her aunt now (how cute is THAT?!). I said well no, but I am your friend.
she calls me aunt now though, and has since we got engaged. I love it!

I was "Almost Aunt Wendy" to one of DH's brothers kids since a little before we got engaged.
BIL's MIL broke out a sign after we said "I do" that said "YOU'RE AUNT WENDY NOW"

DH's niece and nephew are older (nephew was his best man) so they both call me by my first name.
My nieces and nephews didn't call DH "uncle" until it was official and we were married.
