I am a reg ed teacher in a public school on the island.
oh ok. Im in BOCES.. Even there its impossible to get through to some admin. they just want the $$$ - forget the children. Its rough.

Many many hugs Jamie..I work with autistic children and I know how difficult it is, especially if you are not specifically trained for working with them and have no support. Have you spoken to the parents of these children? Do they know whats going on. Unfortunately, they probably won't do much if you complain, figuring you don't have a say, but parents can really get things done in these types of situations. If these kids goals are not being met and services they should be receiving are not being given, then they are breaking the law. They are mandated to have aides with them and can't make excuses for it, they need to get people in there to help. Those parents need to get in there and RAISE HE!!. I hope things get better for you and for those children. I HATE the political games they play in public schools.

Good for you! All they need is ONE parent to sue them and watch how quick they would comply.
An anonoymous phone call the Office of Civil Rights in Washington wouldn't hurt either.

Sad thing is they have been before. I just don't understand how when you know these kids are 'coming down the pike' you don't have the mods that they need set up; like computers and TA's and such. I just don't get it.
My heart breaks for these kids because their attitude is let them fail. No that is UNACCEPTABLE to me. If a child legititmately fails because of lack of effort then ok, but I will not purposely fail a child that might be capable given the tools that he/she is entitled too!
I have 130 students and 22 of them have mods. That is a lot. Most are not just extended time ones either. It's just a lot and every day is a fight for another morsel for these kids. The principal told me today to stop internalizing this so much. I told him I will fight for these children's rights as I would fight for my own daughter's rights! These are CHILDREN!

Awwww I am sooo sorry that you are going through this. It's horrible that they are setting these children up to fail!!! They should be helping these children as best as they can, not doing this to them. I give you lots of kudos for what you did. It will all work out in the end. You'll be okay

The world needs more people like you to stand up for what is right@!! These children have an IEP for a reason, and the school is at fault for not abiding by it.
