I dont know what the market is like in your town - but more likely than not if you bought recently the value of your home has gone down a little. the good thing though is that if you are in it for the long term, I am sure purchasing this house will be a great investment.

I bought in January and had we waited we probably could have gotten a different house a little cheaper. But you know what? Someone else would have bought the house we bought. And I love our house. you just have to try not to look back and not worry about what you paid for the house as long as you love it!

Re: did we overpay?

my step-daughter goes to school in Lynbrook. I remember seeing your house on MLSLI, it looks GREAT for that price. I know someone that paid 510,000 for the same size house in that neighborhood that needs new windows, siding, new heating & they just found out new plumbing & it truly looks like a barn. So I'd say you did well, are prices going lower, probably but if you're planning on living there & you don't have an off the wall loan it doesn't REALLY matter.
Congrats, its a nice house.

Re: did we overpay?

It seems like the end of last year was the peak, go onto Zillow to see what houses have sold for in your area recently (Newsday has listings every Sunday - but their online database is not as up to date)

Got any Pics of the exterior of the house?

I grew up in Lynbrook - District 20 is great. My mom used to teach at the highschool

Re: did we overpay?

Honestly, maybe - maybe now you can get something "bigger & better" for $470K, but it's a beautiful house, and if you're happy there, I wouldn't think about that too much.
There's always going to be a dip in the market when you think, "UGH, we should have waited", but there will also be times when your home is worth A LOT more than you paid and you'll be glad you got such a great deal.
Personally, I just think with the way real estate changes, you just have to do what you think is best at the time.

Re: did we overpay?

Cute house - I love the enclosed porch.

Imo, a house is only worth what you're willing to pay for it. You felt that what you paid is what the house was worth - why question it now? Enjoy your home.
