Re: dress professionally?
To me, it means a suit (preferably a skirt suit), but I agree with others that what constitutes an appropriate outfit depends on the industry.

Re: dress professionally?
Skirt suit always for me from my first interview even before college. Regardless of industry or dress code.
I remember going on lunch to an interview and changing in a ladies room at the WTC. I rolled jacket and skirt neatly into my bag and prayed it stayed wrinkle free and it did
I agree with bringing a business type bag instead of a purse, you should have a neat copy of your resume with you, in my purse it would get destroyed.
Good luck!

Re: dress professionally?
Def agree with above . Always a suit. I went to Sears and got a really nice suit for my interviews after the baby and it was a great price!! Also I just bought one for Andrew's Baptism in Lord and Taylor it wasn't that expensive.
I never ever wore a skirt suit becaue I hate stockings and my gross legs

I didn't say pant suit nor did I say to interview in business casual -- I said as someone that interviews and hires people that a suit is not a necessity in certain situations.
Of course it's preferred, but I can understand where it's difficult for the candidate to do that and be able to look for a job without their employer knowing.
ETA -- you can be dressed professionally without wearing a suit.
I was actually responding to bklyngrl.
And I know it is difficult, I did it for 2 months, changing into a suit in the back of my car. But, I felt it needed to be done. I myself, could never walk into an interview without wearing a suit. JMO.
if u tell the headhunter that you're looking for work while working, they'll let the company know. u don't want a red flag to go off at your current job. jobs will be understanding
Id rather get changed in my car.
some of us work in the city and don't have the luxury. u could still look professional in business casual
Well, it seems you are in the minority then. Most girls here are saying Suit. And I have done whatever it takes to be in a suit, whether it be changing in my car, or carrying my clothing in a bag and changing at the nearest store with a bathroom. I have never had a recruiter tell me that he will contact the employer and tell them I am wearing business casual clothing. If you want to get a job, you have to look the part. And the word casual and professional complete opposites.

Re: dress professionally?
I agree. I worked for a head hunter and I would never call up the company and tell them the candidate was coming in business casual.
You have to jump thru hoops to get a job these days. If one of them is wearing a suit, so be it. You gotta play the game.

it all goes by the recruiter. i tell them i'm coming from work, they don't want anything to happen with your current employer. they understand and the company understands. i would never go in jeans. i would go with black slacks and a nice blouse

As Babybug said, she knows all about this, and would never call a client and tell them the candidate was coming in business casual clothing. We agree to disagree.

No, it seems I am right along with everyone else, except you. I think it's time to find another recruiter quite honestly.

I agree. I have always worn in suit and when I have been the interviewer, the interviewees have always worn a suit.
