I personally haven't, but I've worked on a campaign before and a very good friend of mine was the Campaign Manager for Marty Markowitz (Brooklyn Boro-Prez) and Vincent Gentile (State Senate & Congressman.)

Generally speaking, the C.M. does everything - they're the "right-hand" man of the candidate. They schedule their appearances, fund-raisers, assist in developing their views and in executing them. They keep on top of their press write-ups, develop their campaign from start to finish - demographics, etc.
