I remember about 6 years ago, DH was very sick. For him to go to the doctor, I knew he must have felt awful. He tested positive for flu. A few days later, DD got sick and I took her to the ped because she was young and I was worried about her fever and wanted to make sure it wasn't strep that would need antibiotics. She was positive for Flu as well (and she had had a flu shot)
When I started feeling like poop the next day I was like- Welp, must be flu! I mean the odds were in my favor right? I didn't go to test because I knew what it was and I don't like Tamiflu so I wasn't going to take it. Just stayed home and got better. That is the way we should be looking at Covid at this point
I completely agree with you.
Generally speaking, when one of us gets sick it sweeps through us all and it's safe to assume that we're all getting the same illness.
Like you, my DD tested positive for the flu about 3 years ago and sure enough I was sick with all the same symptoms as her two days later. I didn't bother getting tested myself because what would be the point? I just stayed home until it ran its course.
That's definitely where we need to get with COVID.
ETA - I also cannot understand testing anyone who is asymptomatic just because they were near someone who tested positive. What is this craziness??
My DD had contact with someone who tested positive at her irish step class last Monday. She can't go back without a negative rapid. Nevermind the fact that she's perfectly fine and has been in school the last week.
In normal life before COVID we didn't run to the doctor to be tested for sickness when we were fine just because we were near a sick person. If my kids are near someone with a cold or the flu or whatever and they are fever free and fine, I don't keep them home and go to the doctor "just because" or "just in case". It would make no sense.
We need to get back to living life like normal. If you're sick, do the right thing and stay home until you're better and if you're fine, live your life like normal until you have some reason not to. This testing of asymptomatic people is literally insane at this point. I'm over it.
I'm not going to quote the whole long post, but I completely agree with you both. Well said. We need to start treating COVID like other illnesses. The current approach is complete chaos and having damaging effects for so many people.
The article I posted addresses this. I know some are posting on this thread because they only care about fighting with windy, but if people bother to read the article it speaks to this very point.

Exactly. Not to mention it's virtually impossible to even get a test in a timely manner. There is simply no point in testing healthy people, when you're sick that's one thing but as long as someone is feeling well just live life as if you're fine. Like the good old days. lol

Yes.
My boss was exposed and sick and tested negative on a rapid. She stayed home until she felt better but on day 9 she got a call that her PCR was positive. She assumed since she hadn't heard anything for so long - it was negative (and this was before 5 day quarantine).
Those I know over break who were really sick didn't even test because they didn't feel good enough to wait 4 hours to get tested. I don't fault them for that.
ETA and I know some that are positive are testing daily waiting for a negative (on home tests) which doesn't make any sense to me either...

Well, I tested positive this morning on the home test, then went to a test center for the rapid antigen and it was positive. No lines, thankfully.
Next I have to go for my PCR test, so I can get my “healed” certificate and I think that will be able to be counted as my booster shot. Yay, no needle for me, I think.
Now on to 14 days of quarantine, but I think that might have changed. The info line I called today said it was 14 days, but now I have to wait for the health office to contact me.
It sucks.
I either got it from a restaurant I went to on Wednesday. There were also protests going on in the area at the same time…
I was alerted by an app that I was in close contact with someone. There is a government app you use to check in to restaurants.
Can I ask why you tested? You can work from home if you are sick, correct?
On Mondays I cannot work from home if I am sick. I had mild cold symptoms and I got a notice on my app that I was in contact with someone who tested positive.
Why are you questioning me? I did the right thing and got tested and it was positive. It’s called social responsibility.
I just don't feel that people should be running automatically to be tested. I don't believe all tests are 100% correct. I do get why you did it though and I do agree that many people do need to be tested, like myself for work reasons and other things like surgeries and travel. I just don't think people should be going insane, at least how they are here, to be tested.
Interesting comment coming from you.
For some unknown reason you INSISTED that I should've wasted my time going to get tested when I was sick with COVID even though there was NO point in doing so as I got sick with the SAME EXACT symptoms as my DH a day after he tested positive AND even though I had to quarantine for two weeks anyway at the time even if I wasn't sick.
You sure seem to waffle on your position an awful lot.
Fact is, unless there is some overriding reason as you mentioned, (work, travel, etc), there is really no reason for anyone to waste time and resources getting tested. When my kids get sick I don't immediately race to the doctor to have them tested for flu, strep, etc. They just stay home and recover until they are better. COVID should be no different. Getting tested doesn't change the course of action in terms of getting better, people have become test crazy these days. COVID or otherwise, just stay home until you're fever free, feeling better and free of symptoms.

You are contradicting what you have said in the past:
"I am going to be honest, who cares. If people want to be tested for peace of mind for whatever the reason, that is their business. There are so many more important things to be concerned with right now regarding COVID than over testing. What is the worst case scenario here? Maybe some people find out they are sick with COVID when they didn't have symptoms and now can quarantine to stop further spread. That is a good thing."
"Personally, I wouldn't want to be tested unless I thought I was exposed. I had to have the test done twice before surgery this past summer and I'd rather avoid that unpleasant experience if I can help it."
"Ultimately, I would rather we over test for COVID then under test. There really is no harm in testing more people and even more often."
"Getting tested for COVID takes 5 minutes so if you suspect you have it you should absolutely get tested and give the people around you a heads up. It's a simple courtesy and helps to keep infection rates low."

I have always gotten my results back in 15-20 minutes. The longest was 40 minutes when they were very busy with everyone running to get tested and they were short staffed.

Things have changed in two years. People shift their perspective. I still wouldn't get tested then or now if I was completely asymptomatic. Nor would I go out with a 103 fever and every COVID symptom a day after my DH tests postivice and I have nowhere to be for 14 days when my MEDICAL DOCTOR says it's unnecessary. Ya know, common sense. That thing you love to rail on about to everyone.
My comments were early on in this pandemic when we didn't have treatment or vaccines and the only way to stay safe was to test, mask up and qurantine. We're at a point, OVER two years in, that testing every time you sneeze isn't necessary. The newest variant is more cold like, many millions are vaccinated and it's not the same covid of 2020.
BTW......... don't you have an actual job to do instead of searching people's posts then cutting and pasting like some kind of maniac? Something is wrong with you. Your obsession with this site and every comment ever made is truly unhealthy.

Exactly. Not to mention it's virtually impossible to even get a test in a timely manner. There is simply no point in testing healthy people, when you're sick that's one thing but as long as someone is feeling well just live life as if you're fine. Like the good old days. lol
I have always gotten my results back in 15-20 minutes. The longest was 40 minutes when they were very busy with everyone running to get tested and they were short staffed.
I'm not talking about the wait, I'm talking about the inability to even get an appt to be tested. Everywhere by me is about a week out, I was lucky enough to get an appt with my ped so my DD can get the required rapid test for her to return to dance class.

At this point, I don't understand any of it. lol The world has gone nuts!

Actually it was only this last May you posted this, over a year into the pandemic with many having vaccines for months.
Yup and I have been blessed to be generously rewarded recently for it. This week I am actually doing FOUR people's jobs (2 who left and 1 on vacation and my own) but I try and squeeze in some fluff so my brain does not melt
Edited to say I work quick too. Good at researching

Well they are giving out the home tests at school now so maybe that is why it lessened up. No clue but I actually don't have to test this week so by the time I do, maybe all will have gotten over it and not testing anymore except for the reasons people had to test for before.

Yes that is correct but many online are there waiting for the 15 minute tests. I would say the majority of people I have met online get these.

I think they don’t even care about reading it because of their desire of trusting authorities to tell them what it is and to tell them what to do without allowing themselves to question anything even when things don’t make sense. It’s easier to justify any illogical thing these authoritative people come up with by saying...”well they’re the scientists, they know better” than to question things and look further than the information they’re “allowing” us to have. Censoring has been happening for quite some time and in this covid era, it’s happening in great magnitude however the information is still there and we shouldn’t have any reasons to not consider it.

There is a funny (but sad) Tik Tok in which they have it as a game of Simon Says
CDC says- Put your mask on CDC says- take it off CDC says- put on 2 masks now CDC says- put on 3 CDC says- take your mask off again- IF you are vaccinated! CDC says- quarantine for 10 days CDC says - ok make it 5 days CDC says- get the vaccine CDC says- get the booster CDC says - get another booster
And on and on and on- and everyone just does it no questions asked. And that's kind of how I see the world nowadays

I remember about 6 years ago, DH was very sick. For him to go to the doctor, I knew he must have felt awful. He tested positive for flu.
Not to beat a dead horse but how you do know how anyone's job functions? Do you know what your dh does the entire time he at work? He has NO downtime to do anything but work non-stop?
My job consists of emails so if I have none that are mine, I usually don't have something to do (even though I always look for other things that might get overlooked when getting busy).
I have 2 friends who are constantly on social media and one I know makes close to 200K. I could never get how he has so much time. Well, the other friend's husband knows what he does as her husband does the same and she told me they have a lot of down time because they will spend such and such time on their projects and then have nothing.
Also, how do you even know anyone's work hours? Or days they are off? Most days lately I start in the morning, take no (formal) breaks, take no lunch and either work later or come back on after dinner. No, it is not because of anything else I do besides work, it is because I have SO much to do and it doesn't all come in at once to get it done and then leave for the day. It is literally a 24/7 job but we can only get so much OT and only have so much energy.

Re: Really good piece written on the state of the world
These quotes are out of control for no reason per usual.
I don’t want to quote but thanks for sharing the article Lululu. I also was in the same position as you because of the rules and officials forcing my hand to get my son vaccinated. As you know he just has Covid , and it’s the reason we are holding off. But it’s obvious they are going to make me”choose” to get him vaccinated. Which isn’t a choice and it’s all for stupid reasons that I will vaccinate my son nothing to do with science. It’s frustrating but I’m worried about exclusion and psychological punishment these rules are putting on unvaccinated kids. Treating them like lepers. I am going try to ride it out this school year and maybe have to do it right before school starts in the fall.
I got vaccinated for no reason but to have a meeting for a job in the city. Basically to network. If that’s not the most ridiculous thing ever, then I don’t know what it.
So I feel for the people who are being forced to vaccinate without being allowed time to think it through clearly. See how it is working and make an educated decision for their own family.
I was so sick from the vaccine that I’m literally scared I will have to get the booster. I’ve never been scared of a vaccine or had the reaction I did to this one. I at least need time to forget the feeling before getting the booster, if I have to get it for work.

Oh and feel better soon KingKlang. Please don’t let stress and anxiety of the unknown heighten you’re symptoms and delay your recovery. Try to remain calm, build up your immune system and focus on relaxing.

See that is what KILLS me with this. You had to get a vaccine to go a meeting! Yeah they can argue, well nobody forced you to. You didn't have to go to that meeting. But hell, you wanted the job, or needed the job, or worked hard and saw a great opportunity that you might have to pass up all because the meeting was in NYC. Now if the meeting had been in NJ or on LI and literally 5 feet over the boarder from Queens into Nassau county, you could have gone to your meeting with no vaccine. But having to make a MEDICAL decision over something with potential side effects, to put something in your body that you can't take out because you need to work or go to school or do whatever, to me is truly disgraceful.
And what makes it even MORE disgraceful is the fact that the vaccine doesn't work to stop spread. If it did, I can see the mandates. I can see the gov't saying, well this is the only way to stop this thing, we have no choice. But it's not! And if people don't see that- I'm really done with this world
