Well, I tested positive this morning on the home test, then went to a test center for the rapid antigen and it was positive. No lines, thankfully.
Next I have to go for my PCR test, so I can get my “healed” certificate and I think that will be able to be counted as my booster shot. Yay, no needle for me, I think.
Now on to 14 days of quarantine, but I think that might have changed. The info line I called today said it was 14 days, but now I have to wait for the health office to contact me.
It sucks.
I either got it from a restaurant I went to on Wednesday. There were also protests going on in the area at the same time…
I was alerted by an app that I was in close contact with someone. There is a government app you use to check in to restaurants.
Can I ask why you tested? You can work from home if you are sick, correct?
On Mondays I cannot work from home if I am sick. I had mild cold symptoms and I got a notice on my app that I was in contact with someone who tested positive.
Why are you questioning me? I did the right thing and got tested and it was positive. It’s called social responsibility.
I just don't feel that people should be running automatically to be tested. I don't believe all tests are 100% correct. I do get why you did it though and I do agree that many people do need to be tested, like myself for work reasons and other things like surgeries and travel. I just don't think people should be going insane, at least how they are here, to be tested.

On places where you can use a positive test instead of having to get vaccinated it makes sense to get tested. In the US, maybe only if you need it for work?

Sooooo many good points!! Thank u for sharing lululu!!! I really enjoyed the reading and brought up many, many things that should be relevant to all.
“What my mother had provided was a seed of doubt. A reason to look closer at the science that everyone around me took for granted. If my mother did not exist, it would have never occurred to me that there was any reason to look into childhood vaccines—or later, Covid vaccines—and that would be the end of the story.”
Needless to say I love his mom. Not only because she’s a smart, naturalist, independent thinker that’s not afraid to go against the grain even with vaccines but because she was able to raise her child as a critical thinker, and the relevance of seeking all evidence before forming his own conclusions. This is an ability that unfortunately is getting lost with each generation.
This is another paragraph that should resonate with everyone regardless if u're part of “the other” or not.
“I’m taking a stand because if people like me don’t stand up against what’s going on in the world right now then things will only get harder and weirder and scarier for other people like me. I’m worried that if we don’t get off this path soon, it’s going to get harder and harder to turn back. And I don’t want to see where that ends up.”
Part of me thinks it’s already too late. There are so few people who are willing to listen to the other side or to just get another perspective. People are so convinced they are right that they double down in their beliefs even when it becomes glaringly obvious that they are wrong. The world is in such a sad state. I was on the fence about having my girls vaccinated. I already caved to the pressures and had my son vaccinated for all the wrong reasons. This article made me realize it’s okay to hold off even if it is against the grain.
I wanted to respond to this, as I was firmly in the "if we all get vaccinated, this will end soon" camp and I've since changed my tune (for the most part). I was admittedly a paranoid freak when Covid first hit. We got vaccinated early on and I encouraged everyone to. I followed all the REAL guidance out there. My husband had a stroke last summer at 39 (and he's totally fine now), but it was scary and we never found out the true cause. I started to think it was the vaccine, and questioned his doctors- they tend to agree. He's in healthcare and we are so worried that he'll be required to get his booster OR lose his job now. We are going to go for a medical exemption, but getting one of those aprpoved by a major hospital system is not easy. He's worked hard for his career and without his income, we won't make it and I'm fully employed, with a great income too. We got Covid over Christmas and while we were SICK (flulike for days), I didn't ever worry that I would die. This isn't the same virus it was 2 years ago. I did have to attend TWO wakes last week of people who died related to Covid (with other factors) and have another this week. Which is crazy to me. Here we are two years later, and we don't have many answers. I get that two years into a new virus isn't long, but I wish that the powers that be would stop and really think about what they are doing. How does mandating more shots help anything when people are still getting sick at alarmingly high rates whether they have 1, 2 or 3 shots. We are at a point where nothing makes sense anymore. I'm not saying the vaccines didn't help, I'm not saying Covid is or isn't a death sentence, I'm not saying I have the answers....I don't know what to do anymore. Being a parent right in this climate is probably one of the hardest things we'll ever face- we're forced to make decisions without precedent and hope for the best. We're forced to make these decisions for ourselves and loved ones and who knows what is right anymore.
I agree.
I feel the initial vaccines helped in the beginning - as I know those who were vaccinated early on who's families got Covid and they did not. But the more and more this evolves, the less and less it makes sense.
I feel many are starting to feel this way.
I wanted to get my older son vaccinated ASAP as he was on the verge of turning 12 and he could've gotten the pediatric dose still but I am glad I waited as he will need countless boosters anyway and probably will still get Omicron.
And I find it senseless to introduce a booster for Omicron in March when by then, I would guess a large percentage of the population, either knowingly or unknowingly, would've already had Omicron.
Right. We are always two steps behind this virus so until it’s been around a while I and we have more of a grasp this makes zero sense. I am looking at all these people getting boosters just scratching my head! It’s not working!
Yup and this virus was around before they said it was. I know my husband had something as well as other family and friends.

The people who have been on line with me was usually for work, surgeries or travel. Some were around others and wanted to just make sure but then it turned into everyone needed to be tested even if they felt fine. We didn't feel well the day after Christmas but we did like every other sickness, watched to make sure we were ok, hydrated, ate, stayed home. I have heard so many stories of people who were sick that week. I even just saw a post from 2013 on my fb memories of me being sick that week too. Illnesses go around, especially at holiday time when people are run down and not in their regular routines.

I'm sorry that your husband had a stroke, that's very scary. I'm glad he's better now. And I'm sorry that he has to worry about possibly losing his job over something that could potentially cause him more harm and at the end of the day we have now learned isn't doing anything to prevent the spread. And in terms of what you said about the government needing to stop and think about what they are doing- they know. They are smart people. They can't be this stupid or blind. Which really makes me see that our government ahs it's own agenda that trumps everything else. I mean I always knew that- but these past 2 years have made it so glaringly obvious that I often get very depressed and hopeless about it.

Interesting comment coming from you.
For some unknown reason you INSISTED that I should've wasted my time going to get tested when I was sick with COVID even though there was NO point in doing so as I got sick with the SAME EXACT symptoms as my DH a day after he tested positive AND even though I had to quarantine for two weeks anyway at the time even if I wasn't sick.
You sure seem to waffle on your position an awful lot.
Fact is, unless there is some overriding reason as you mentioned, (work, travel, etc), there is really no reason for anyone to waste time and resources getting tested. When my kids get sick I don't immediately race to the doctor to have them tested for flu, strep, etc. They just stay home and recover until they are better. COVID should be no different. Getting tested doesn't change the course of action in terms of getting better, people have become test crazy these days. COVID or otherwise, just stay home until you're fever free, feeling better and free of symptoms.

It was my third test ever and I cried because I am afraid of medical procedures. I felt that something wasn’t right, and my gut feeling was correct.
Just this morning I felt really funny. Kind of like I had smoked 10 joints over the weekend and downed a bottle of Xanax. I felt extremely confused and my fingers and lips felt tingly. So I called the ambulance. They checked my oxygen and heart rate and I was ok. It was a panic attack. So now I am getting a home visit from another service here to help with that. It came on so sudden and it wasn’t something I had ever felt before. My gums were pale.
Edit: the brain fog is a very interesting symptom that plays with your head.

I completely agree with you.
Generally speaking, when one of us gets sick it sweeps through us all and it's safe to assume that we're all getting the same illness.
Like you, my DD tested positive for the flu about 3 years ago and sure enough I was sick with all the same symptoms as her two days later. I didn't bother getting tested myself because what would be the point? I just stayed home until it ran its course.
That's definitely where we need to get with COVID.
ETA - I also cannot understand testing anyone who is asymptomatic just because they were near someone who tested positive. What is this craziness??
My DD had contact with someone who tested positive at her irish step class last Monday. She can't go back without a negative rapid. Nevermind the fact that she's perfectly fine and has been in school the last week.
In normal life before COVID we didn't run to the doctor to be tested for sickness when we were fine just because we were near a sick person. If my kids are near someone with a cold or the flu or whatever and they are fever free and fine, I don't keep them home and go to the doctor "just because" or "just in case". It would make no sense.
We need to get back to living life like normal. If you're sick, do the right thing and stay home until you're better and if you're fine, live your life like normal until you have some reason not to. This testing of asymptomatic people is literally insane at this point. I'm over it.

This is a horrible situation for your family and I hope they open their eyes soon and see what they are doing to people. I hope that they look into these side effects as it is a shame he had to go through that and they don't even know if that was the reason.

You had covid before your vaccine, correct? When it was also less known how to cure like now. You don't KNOW you had covid either but you keep saying you did because your doctor told you NOT to test. I WOULD have tested then honestly as you said you could not breathe and was scared that it was going to get worse. If I was THAT sick, I would get tested. Cold like symptoms that lessen in a day or 2, no.
Getting tested just increases the numbers and are locking us down again for many things. If people just did the right thing, the rest of us can live normally.

I remember about 6 years ago, DH was very sick. For him to go to the doctor, I knew he must have felt awful. He tested positive for flu. A few days later, DD got sick and I took her to the ped because she was young and I was worried about her fever and wanted to make sure it wasn't strep that would need antibiotics. She was positive for Flu as well (and she had had a flu shot)
When I started feeling like poop the next day I was like- Welp, must be flu! I mean the odds were in my favor right? I didn't go to test because I knew what it was and I don't like Tamiflu so I wasn't going to take it. Just stayed home and got better. That is the way we should be looking at Covid at this point
I totally agree with you on this! And I typically also send them with some ongestion/no other symptoms (basically when they feel fine other than the congestion and have no fever) which now is a no unless tested.

What are you rambling about? I NEVER said that I couldn't breathe. My breathing was just fine throughout. I did however have every other symptom in the book all of which my DH had.
As usual, you always seem to think you know better then medical professionals. My doctor saw no point in my going out with a 103 fever and exposing others simply to be tested for COVID a day after my DH got sick and tested positive. He explicitly said it's highly unlikely it would be anything but COVID and should I get worse, go to the ER. My DD was sick a day after me. It was absolutely COVID but you know that, you just like to stir $hit up. Perhaps you should stop advising others as to what they should do when they are sick as you haven't been in the position of having COVID yourself. Like any other illness, when one person in the house gets sick and then everyone else follows suit there is NO reason to run to the doctor and be tested for anything, COVID or otherwise. It's MORE than safe to assume that the SAME illness is running through everyone. That's how germs and sickness works. One person doesn't test positive for COVID and coincidentally the next day, the rest of the family just happens to get sick with something entirely different after not being sick for a year. Be real.

Unfortunately with quarantine rules, I would still want a positive test for my children so they don’t need to quarantine for 90 days if exposed. But we had someone come to the house to test. We just forked over the extra money because it was worth it.

We had it last March, quarantine rules were 14 days if exposed to anyone in the home with COVID. A positive or negative test wouldn't have changed anything, they were stuck home for 14 days regardless.
I believe now we're at 5 days quarantine, can go back with negative rapid if not vaccinated. I'm losing track though, they keep adjusting the quarantine rules almost weekly. Grr

Why do you have to be so nasty? My bad, I thought you had said you had breathing issues or were scared about having them.
I TOTALLY agree with not testing, especially now when the majority of people have colds with this variant. I just wouldn't go around and say I have/had Covid if I was not 100% positive. Just like I wouldn't say I had the flu when I wasn't tested or Strep, etc.

I do get why you did it though and I do agree that many people do need to be tested, like myself for work reasons and other things like surgeries and travel. I just don't think people should be going insane, at least how they are here, to be tested.
Ok I don't smoke or have ever had a Xanax but I guess it was a panic attack more than the Covid symptoms sound like you have a cold.

Be real.
Whatever. My bad, I forgot that you always know better than everyone about everything no matter the topic at hand.
Just give the snarky comments a rest already. Stop telling others what they should do, what they experienced, how they should feel, what they had or didn't have. Do you. You don't know the details about anyone else's life experiences let alone their medical experiences. Insinuating that you do time and time again is foolish.

Unfortunately with quarantine rules, I would still want a positive test for my children so they don’t need to quarantine for 90 days if exposed. But we had someone come to the house to test. We just formed over the extra money because it was worth it.
Grr
It makes sense to test the kids as if they are positive - they get a 90 day pass from having to quarantine after that. My friend did that. One kid was positive last March and she didn't want to test the others who had symptoms later on but then realized, they wouldn't have to test/quarantine for awhile if they were positive so she did it.
ETA - Right now we have 5 days, no test to return. You just need to have symptoms resolving and have been fever free for 24 hours.

Re: Really good piece written on the state of the world

I'm not going to quote the whole long post, but I completely agree with you both. Well said. We need to start treating COVID like other illnesses. The current approach is complete chaos and having damaging effects for so many people.

You don’t have to quarantine for 90 days from a positive test for exposure. So if your kids had been exposed again in June they would have been required to quarantine. AGAIN. That’s what I am talking about. Not the initial quarantine. And you need a positive test to prove that.

I'm not going to quote the whole long post, but I completely agree with you both. Well said. We need to start treating COVID like other illnesses. The current approach is complete chaos and having damaging effects for so many people.
I think most of us are on the same page with this.
