 | Please tell me this is normal... Lately my daughter seems to purposely do things to hurt herself, usually when she is angry about not getting her way. But she will bang her head into the wall, floor or anything near by. She sometimes also bites or pinches her own arm when she is angry. She does try to pinch or bite us as well, but I hate that she is hurting herself.  | Re: Please tell me this is normal... Completely normal.  Best thing you can do to help her is say things like "You don't like that." or "You're not happy".  She 's banging herself because she doesn't know how to communicate yet.  
 Daycare teachers use the expression : "Use your words."
 
 You need to give her the words to communicate.  Joseph would say "I had a hard day".  Maddie would use "I NOT happy!"
