Does your FH/Parents/Friends meet your expectations?
Spinoff from a posters response to a thread yesterday, that she has very high expectations of the people in her life.

Re: Does your FH/Parents/Friends meet your expectations?
My DH, family, inlaws and my close friends all definitely meet my expectations. I've learned not to "expect" much from people, so when they go out of their way or are there for me (as most of them always are) then yes I think they meet my expections...and usually go above and beyond!

My DH and most of my family and one of my friends meet my expectations. In-laws and some other friends definitely do not.

In one of the threads about "Who are you hardest on", a poster responded that she has high expectations of the people in her life. I was wondering if other posters expect a lot of their family and friends, and if those expectations were being met.

Re: Does your FH/Parents/Friends meet your expectations?
I'll admit I have pretty high expectations and standards. I give a lot to my relationships and I expect the same in return.
I've learned to control the way I handle it better as I've gotten older and I am much more forgiving that I used to be.
An example: My BIL and his wife. Every holiday I spend a lot of time and money and energy finding them good presents. Birthdays, XMAS, Anniversary, etc. They RARELY give us anything but a card, if that - and it's not that they can't afford it. He was the best man in our wedding and didn't even wish us a happy 1st anniversary this year.
In the past I might have yelled and raged at them, but now I simply lower my expectations of them for the future, cut back on the amount of energy and money I spend on them and I find things are much better for me.
