If you find spitting disgusting, you’re apparently not alone. In fact, some law enforcement officials find the act so offensive they feel it should be “outlawed”.

In fact, Nassau County Correctional officers were recently in court trying to pass legislations, known as the “Spitters” Bill, prohibiting the act.

The Bill would make spitting a felony for inmates, especially those that aimed to expel saliva, spit or sputum on correctional officers, and there would be a penalty associated for anyone violating this new rule.

According to experts, the new regulation would be directed more at health than at showing respect as offers note that many inmates may have life-threatening illnesses putting them (the correctional officers) at high risk for contracting HIV or Hepatitis via contact with bodily fluids such as spit and saliva.
