My son is getting braces-suggestions
Any advice for the day of and for the duration of them?

Just motrin the first day or so. My DD had some discomfort, but nothing crazy. Lasted about 2 days.
Soft foods the first day or 2. We had to cut up things really small- like she couldn't bite into a slice of pizza or a bagel or burger for a few days.
Later on she got a device put in on the roof of her mouth to "anchor" her molars as her other teeth moved into place and that she had a bit more discomfort...again only a few days and motrin helped.

Ask for those little things of wax, a few of them. When my kids got them, the next day was the worst with their gums sore from poking wires. It really helped.

the best advice I got when my daughter got her braces was getting a pair of dental pliers from Amazon. If his bracket or wire breaks and you aren't able to get to the Orthodontist right away you can clip wire back a little to make him comfortable (this is only for emergency and absolute last resort, of course) I only needed it twice, but it was very nice to have.
