Getting my son to LIKE Santa - Suggestions?

So last year my son was freaked out by Santa - he was fifteen months old.

Now, this year, he is just over two years old and I'm taking him to get his picture taken with Kreative Kidz Photography - she has a really nice looking Santa do an in-studio shoot. So, I figured this would be better than the mall.

Is there anything I can (proactively) do to get him to realize that Santa is a good guy? Anything I can YouTube and show him portraying Santa in a good light so he is excited to see him and not freaked?

Books to suggest? I have about a month to work on this with him Chat Icon

How did you get your child to understand that Santa = happy?

TIA! Chat Icon

Tell him to be nice to Santa or he will get no toys for Christmas! Totally kidding lol. Maybe have him watch Rudolph or a cute Christmas movie with Santa. And get him excited to the fact he can actually meet him.

Getting my son to LIKE Santa - Suggestions?

My son is 3 1/2. He likes Santa in the sense that he likes Christmas, he likes presents. He is perfectly fine seeing Santa from afar and waving to him. But sitting on his lap? NO WAY lol. Not since he was 6 months old. We've tried and we only have crying pictures from the last 2 years. This year I'm not even going to attempt it unless he shows interest. I think it's very normal for them to be wary of Santa and I don't know if there's much you can do. Definitely can't hurt to show him some Christmas movies with Santa and read some books. But don't be surprised if he's still scared to sit on his lap. Good luck!

Time. I don't think you can make them like Santa. My DS loves him until we get up to sit on his lap. He is past the crying screaming stage but def not happy guy.

Agreed. My youngest is not a fan and we don't push it. Not worth the drama and stress on our end. Chat Icon

AGREED!
Don't force it...let them get comfortable on their own.

For example...this was my son on his first visit with Santa... (and yes, I still Chat Icon at this picture.)

I agree with time. He might be fine this year. My daughter freaked her first year (almost 12 months). She was slightly better the next year (almost 2--she didn't cry, but my DH and I had to take the pic with her), and by the next Christmas, she was a total pro--huge smile. I just kept trying.

The best is you can have up to 3 pictures...and they got progressively worse. I remember we called it "The Progression of Terror" Chat Icon

We are in the same boat. 2 yrs ago at 4 mos, she was fine, last year at 16 mos, total disaster. We ended up doing a family photo with Santa, which was ok.

I agree with time. We will try again this year and see how it goes. I also have baby DS this year, so he will get his own and if she's a mess, we'll do the family pic again. GL!

Re: Getting my son to LIKE Santa - Suggestions?

That's a tough age.
First Christmas my son was 3 months, we got a great picture with Santa as he had no clue. The next Christmas, he was 15 months and it was awful. The Christmas after that when he was 2, he was scared, but he wanted a toy mail truck so bad, he waited and went up to tell him from afar, but most of his friends were still too scared at 2.
The Santa was great, at the Girls Scouts light show, and got him to sit with him and laugh. Last year, at 3, he loved Santa and we had to see many.

Getting my son to LIKE Santa - Suggestions?

Following...
We did a sneak attack with my DD last year. She didn't even realize until I plopped her in his lap and backed away quickly while jumping up and down ike a maniac. They got the smiley pic just before she turned and realized that she was in his lap LOL! Then all hell broke loose. I tried the same tactic with the easter bunny and I think I may end up with therapy bills from that one! I hope this year goes better LOL buuuuttt I doubt it!

Agree. DD only starting 'liking' Santa last year- at 4 1/2.
And she still wants nothing to do with sitting on his lap.
Not worth the stress.

Getting my son to LIKE Santa - Suggestions?

The only good pic we have gotten was when she was 6 months olds and had no clue. Now we do family pics or she wants nothing to do with. I saw the kreative kids posting and that santa looked awesome but I didn't feel like fighting and tears.

Getting my son to LIKE Santa - Suggestions?

it took a few years for my son to really like Santa. last year he had just turned 3 and still wanted no part of Santa. took him for pictures before Christmas and he did not want to sit on his lap. well, fast forward a few days AFTER Christmas (we went to the Jones Beach lights late last year but Santa was still there) and he was so excited to see him and tell him thank you for all the gifts. The smile on his face was priceless! now I think he gets it :)
