So I just read the following from the Niagra Reporter (not sure if it's true or not)

“The Niagara Reporter newspaper has learned from a high-level democratic lawmaker from New York State that Governor Andrew Cuomo plans to cancel trick-or-treating across the state at the end of September or first week of October.”

And how, pray tell, will they enforce that?
What cop is going to go after children trick or treating?
They don't even give a shit about junkies having sex in broad day light in mid town and shooting up.
Please. Come after me. Write me the summons.
I have it from a high level source that cops are done enforcing his nonsense.

Lol, omg. I don’t blame them.

I truly feel like trying to cancel Halloween is going to force people to hold parties and gather in groups. Which is worse according to the guidelines. But then again why should anything make sense.

Did you hear about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade going virtual? I find this so funny.

Did you hear Christmas is cancelled as well?
No live trees will be allowed in your home because we cannot be 100% sure that they do no harbor viruses, but feel free to live stream the virtual tree on Zoom. Similar to the Yule Log but more high tech.

I want to laugh at this, I really do. But it is probably exactly what will happen!!

Right nothing surprises me anymore. I guess this will be the year I go to PA and make my husband cut down our own tree. I’ve been wanting to do this for years. Him not so much.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Omg I hate that term so much. Along with social distance and quarantine. Change is not a new normal it’s just change, social distance means you want to separate your self from being social - it should be Physical Distance and quarantine just irks me because no one uses it right. Phew got that off my chest.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Did I see the article - yes, did I read the whole thing- no. Because I never watch it nor do ever go to it because I don’t like crowds. My point was that it won’t be live, so another thing pretty much cancelled this year.

All I read on one headline was that Macy's was "re-imagining" it. That was all i needed to read.

Re: halloween

Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year. I have a big party and spend 2 months transforming my house for it.

But this year, I’m skipping it all.
Yes, I go out. Yes, I wear a mask when around others but I don’t think it’s a good idea to have probably over 100 people walking up my steps and interacting with them handing out candy. My luck I’d wake up with a cold Few days later and wonder if I killed a neighbor (I know, probably overkill, but just not worth the risk to me)

I don’t have kids so that’s not an issue for me. I do have small nieces and I think my SIL will be bringing them by us and other family to safely ToT

I am pretty pissed not to have my party on Halloween! It’s always the weekend of and was looking forward to this year with it being on a Saturday.

I know just what you mean. My kids' friend's parents do the most elaborate haunted house parties every year--like the kind that could be on TV, and it is always so special. They are not doing it this year, and we get it, but we are so sad. No trick or treating for us this year either-for the same reasons you gave. We are working very hard to plan things for the holiday so it will be special and memorable like all of the others.

I know you are being sarcastic, but No, I still have no intention of opening my door for trick or treaters....parents can go and buy their kids candy, no matter if Cuomo gave his "blessing:/

Re: halloween

This is honestly the best quote I have heard from him in a long time:

quote from Gov. Cuomo.. " I would not ban trick or treaters going door to door I don't think that's appropriate. You have neighbors, you want to knock on your neighbor's door, god bless you. If you want to take a walk with your child through the neighborhood, I'm not going to tell you you can't take your child through the neighborhood, I'm not going to do that. I will give you my advice and guidance and you make the decision what you do that night."

I guess what was announced yesterday had started to spread so it was the hot topic lol - he usually doesn't make decisions this far in advance. I'm surprised he didn't add that he wouldn't take his kids trick or treating (as he wouldn't send them to camp and would have concerns about sending them to in person school)

There was an article that said some "official" had inside knowledge that Cuomo would be announcing he was banning trick or treating, parties etc on Halloween.

I'm not opening my door for strangers this year and are not bringing my kids to strangers houses either. We will go to a couple close family and friends houses to trick or treat and that's it.
