I feel like Halloween has been on a decline and has been getting cancelled little by little for several years already. I believe Halloween was pretty much cancelled after hurricane Sandy. I know towns in NJ cancelled it or rescheduled the day, which, I thought was so weird.
I love Halloween and my son is obsessed with it. So we will celebrate. I don’t think they can enforce a cancellation where you don’t celebrate. It will be up to the individual.
If I had little ones, I’d find out which friends are open to doing trick or treating in the neighborhood. Make a list and share it with your group. Perhaps a party, you may be able to do an outside one if the weather is still mild.
This year it’s on a Saturday..this is a dream for Halloween lovers like myself. Don’t waste this opportunity ladies.

Yes! I was saying how people would come from other areas to trick or treat. It's always been busy here since we moved in. More so lately. I love it because it means I get rid of more candy so there is less left to stuff down my face!

When I lived in Queens, hardly anyone would knock on my door. And this was 13 years ago. I remember me as kid, kids would be all over till 11 at night ToT.
I always make the best of it. There’s a strip of stores in my area where we take my son and there’s a bunch of kids ToT. They also have a party in my building. I’m sure the won’t do it this year. All I’m saying is I don’t feel like Halloween is how it used to be when I was younger.
Eta: and I know during hurricane Sandy it pretty much dead or cancelled in a lot of towns in Nj. I dressed my son up and took him to a bar though. He had fun and they had candy. Lol.

We’re doing exactly the same.
Same. My neighborhood is huge on trick or treating, people come from other neighborhoods to trick or treat here too actually .
And judging by what I've seen all summer here...kids riding bikes, pool parties, play dates, get togethers, I doubt anyone is going to be worried about trick or treating.
My neighborhood is like this as well. I always walk through my neighborhood before covid and can't believe how many people and families there were. Bokes, walking dogs, pushing strollers.
I also live on a block where there is straight through and no cross traffic. So people actually come from other neighborhoods, park their car and trick or treat.
And now that it is on a saturday, I am sure it will be double.

If King Cuomo and his Joker Diblasio decide to cancel it for any dumb reason other than the infection rate being high, i have a feeling that NJ and CT would not cancel and lots of rode trips might be going on since its on a Saturday.

I have a kid friend party and we will have the same group that we are socially distancing with all summer over for a Halloween party. I will hide candy all over my house and yard, like an Easter egg hunt and let them go wild. I feel like they need it this year more than ever.

I think when they say cancel, It’s more of ordinances being put in place. For example some towns may say no knocking on doors. But people can still do the parking lot trunk ToT or go to other towns, Celebrate by having a party. You can’t really cancel it.
I plan on throwing a party if it’s going to be restricted. Which, to me is a higher risk than going ToT but they kind of force your hand. It’s like how everyone is jammed outside in restaurants because indoor dining isn’t allowed. Sometimes the rules create more risks because you are limiting people’s options.

I saw someone say their kids won’t but yet they take their kids to the beach have play dates. Currently went away to I am pretty sure a state that has high case right now but won’t let their kid go trick o treating

i feel like my co-op is goig to do soemthing dumb & say no going door to door. Usually they give out signs you van put on your door if you are ok with kids coming by & I always do unless we won't be home. I woudl be fine with that & understand that some parents might no bring their kids, but others would.

To me the candy itself isn't really the issue. That can be sanitized and I always inspected it before Covid anyway.
What I don't love is the prospect of an unmasked stranger standing over my son. We can't control whether people answering their door will wear one. I think the risk is pretty manageable, though, and if we go I'll tell him to try and keep his distance if they are unmasked. Fortunately it takes a split second to drop candy in the bucket.
We go in a big group and the adults walk around drinking wine. We have so much fun. If we do it, I'll definitely keep my distance from people and bring my own booze.
Halloween is far enough away that I can't really think about it right now. So much can change by then. But I'd like to make it happen especially because he's going into 5th and I really don't know how much longer he'll want to.

This is an EXTREMELY oversimplified example, but the way I think about it is like this:
Right now, our infection rate is around 1%.
Imagine you have 100 blueberries. One of them is poison. Every time you’re around a different person, it’s like eating 1 of those blueberries. Your chance of being poisoned is small, but the more you eat, the greater the chance will be.

This is an EXTREMELY oversimplified example, but the way I think about it is like this:
Right now, our infection rate is around 1%.
Imagine you have 100 blueberries. One of them is poison. Every time you’re around a different person, it’s like eating 1 of those blueberries. Your chance of being poisoned is small, but the more you eat, the greater the chance will be.
I like the analogy but the word poison is too strong for a person with no underlying issues. I’d compare it to eating something contaminated with salmonella or something. Could make you very sick or not really affect you.

There are a lot of fun masks ( jack o lantern, skeletons) you can order if you want to wear one at the door or walking around with your kids.

Oh I’m not worried about us wearing masks. We’ll be compliant. I’m talking about people who answer the door. I have no idea if they will be wearing a mask or not.
