It’s all BS.. most camps are closed and it’s going to be hard to find a summer camp. There were limited camps in my area as is and now there’s none. But thanks governors for opening.Chat Icon

They wait until the last minute when they know camps won't be able to open in time anyway.
But then they can say- well we told them they could open!
So ridiculous.

Exactly, Most camps in rural areas require buses to take the kids to places where they can swim and play outdoors. Well bussing isn’t allowed, so basically no camps for those kids.

It’s starting to seem more and more like a planned approach to open without really opening. Like look what we gave you. Phase 1 was just adding retails for curbside, camps opening when they were all cancelled already, opening businesses and buildings in phase 3 but no camps or schools yet till phase 4.. so how are people going to work. The phases and openings just seem out wack to me.

ETA: many bus companies have closed down. Should be interesting in the fall.

Does anyone know of any camps in Suffolk near the east end that are actually open? I haven't found any that plan on opening right now.

Summer camps can open June 29th

The camp that my child has attended for the past 6 years is planning to open on time - June 29. I am waiting to see what all the protocols are going to be. I want to send my kid to camp, but DH is dead set against it. He thinks there is no way to prevent DD from becoming a carrier and bringing it home to him and his underlying health conditions.

Summer camps can open June 29th

We got an update from our camp today (NYC Privately run Day Camp):
They plan to be up & running by 7/13. They still don't have guidance on logistics. They still need approval from Dept of Health, DOE (they use schools for lunch and rainy days)- I'm doubtful they will get this...and renewal permits from parks Department.

My DD camp is trying to open 6/29--we got an email stating that they are waiting for guidelines, etc. Depending on what they are, I'll make the decision then--i know that the program is going to be altered anyway (she goes to a theater camp, so they are not doing plays, etc) I just want to see what they are going to alter

A lot of camps are switching to BYO food it seems and not operating on rainy days...

Well, my picky eater always brought lunch anyway. I still don't know if I will send her. I am waiting to see what the structure is. Her camp was 2/3 trips a week and 2 pool days. She's 10 and she's not going to be happy running around a park all day everyday- she really loved the trips. I doubt they will do trips and I don't really want her to anyway. I'm wondering if they will actually allow non-full time now, it was always 5 full days or nothing. If it's outdoor, I might consider sending her 2 days a week..maybe only in August. I don't know. I'm so torn.

I know. My younger son did a daycare based camp with trips 3/5 days and special events the other 2. This year I think all travel will be suspended so I think it will be more of a daycare feel than a camp so I'm not going to send him.

My other son usually does sports camps. None have announced yet what they are going to do since there is no official guidance yet but I think he's SOL except for golf camp.

ETA: After getting my "back to work" plan last week I'm less and less hopeful for things to open. I'm going to be remote for awhile since it's too much work to go to work.

I know that camp Green Brook is open in Suffolk County if anyone is looking for a camp. I don't know about any others. My daughter goes to gymnastics Sleepaway Camp in Pennsylvania, and that is still happening. They have a lot of various precautions and are limiting enrollment, and excluding non us residents.

She has also has attended Sleepaway Camp in East Hampton for Girl Scouts every year, and I'm completely bummed that they're not having it this year.

Yes cuomo said camps can open June 29, but NYS has yet to release the mandatory guidelines from the New York State Department of Health for summer camps to make sure the camps can realistically implement them.

The CDC guidelines released theirs a couple of weeks ago, but not NY. For the camps that are saying they are opening, they should really wait for the NYS guidelines and the parents should wait to see what they are before making the decision to send their kids.
