Summer camps can open June 29th
so I know everything seems to be now about the protests but Cummo has announced summer camps can open June 29th 
maybe the covid thing will go away quicker than we thought

OMG that is great!
I just hope the camps are ready and CAN open.
I know a lot that have been waiting so long to hear an answer one way or another and they just ended up closing- because they won't have enough time to plan.
But I am hoping some programs can get going.
And yes, this might mean good things for school in Sept!!!

Why did he close the summer programs for special needs - extended school though ?
I am kind of scratching my head why he would agree for camps but shut down the extended school year

I wonder what the restrictions will be - a lot of camps have already closed in my area. I was hoping he'd have a little more than just one bullet point on a slide.

No - it was a bullet point on the bottom of the slide and then we went to discuss the protests/riots.

I know some towns are canceling their camps/activities. Pools can open with restrictions (not sure what they are yet).

I feel like once the riots started, Covid became the afterthought. It was literally, "great job, numbers continue to drop. Camps can open June 29th, regions upstate will start phase 2 tomorrow, NYC starts phase 1 Monday." Ok, moving on to the riots...

Summer camps can open June 29th
We received a 12 page pdf from our camp. No busing, limited group sizes, no group interactions, cleaning protocols, rain days will be no camp, no field trips or travel, etc etc.

I feel like society- and the media- cannot focus on two things at once.
So once a new disaster comes around, the first disaster goes away.

I know - you see people touching and hugging strangers. You aren't even supposed to hug and touch people you know that aren't in your household!
I'd be surprised if NYC can still start Phase 1 on Monday - regardless of whether the virus spreads, it will skew their hospital metrics I'm sure.

Just because camps can open doesn't mean they will. People in my town here in NJ are having a hard time finding ones that have openings because even though they got the okay to open many decided not to

Yes - the town next to me cancelled all of their camps yesterday and many private camps aren't opening. The camps that are opening have a lot of restrictions as well...

Yes! It’s always like that. The same happened last yr. The measles miraculously disappeared right after they passed the mandate bills  .

I think any protest related spike/skew of hospital beds will not be only a NYC problem. People are protesting all over LI, peacefully, but still on top of each other. If this causes a spike, it is causing it all over the country. I don't think covid is a reason to not protest. They need to be heard, virus or no virus. It may set us back a little, but don't think it will go back to the hell it was in April.

I guess I will wait and see what the camp says. We paid a deposit, were told they are not accepting final payments yet. They have been sending out up updates every 15 days or so. They already said that instead of July 6th start date, it will likely be July 13th. I just don't know if it's worth it to send her.
