2nd wave or not we should be prepared for it by then!
now dont get me wrong i wont be too surprised if we are still out come September

September hopefully. Many parents can't work if there is no school (or even camp), so if it's beyond that, people are going to be living on the streets.

It makes no sense to reopen schools in December and January at the height of flu season. Last December and January the flu went though my kids entire daycare. My whole family had it. I don’t think our kids first reintroduction to germs should be at that time.
I think they will reopen in September but I can see them closing down for a few days or weeks if things get rough around flu season. The precedent has now been set that schools can close for illness when this was never the case before.

There is a camp director in my local moms group. He says camps are essential services because they are a form of childcare for working parents. At camp the kids can be outdoors and can be split into smaller groups. Additional staff can be hired and trained quickly to make groups smaller. He seems very optimistic that they will be open.

I don't see schools opening like everything is normal. I'm thinking some kind of hybrid opening in the fall maybe. Half days with alternating students. I don't see how 20 something kids will be able to be socially distanced in a classroom.

I signed up my daughter for camp in December. Just last week, we got an email to fill out the online paperwork, so they are going forward as if they will open. I just hope it really does happen!

I agree. I am very optimistic that camps will be open, all of the camps around me are saying they plan on being open with proper precautions in place. I know Cuomo can close them, but they are more like daycare than they are like school. Child care centers are allowed to be open.
Schools, I still say September, but depending on the school, there will have to be precautions in place. Private schools already have very small class sizes, they may not need to be on a hybrid schedule like the public schools do.

I am starting to worry they wont open until a vaccine is offered. That is honestly what the govt sees as phase 3.

yes i would love to know where he heard its going great?
because it isn't in my district they aren't even learning and i have heard the same from many others.
I just see him using this to his benefit . he wants to upgrade the technology in classrooms which is great but that should have nothing to do with opening schools.
distance learning may work better for older kids but elementary kids should def. be in school!

They see a vaccine as stage 3? I've never heard that. Can't say I'd be surprised though. My hope is while kids are in camp this summer, they can go through phases 2 and 3, get the adults back to work, and kids will follow in September. Distance learning is not, in any way, an adequate education.
And this is why people don't like Cuomo. Nobody is blaming him for the virus being here. But some of the things he says and thinks make it very clear he can't see past his privileged life.

Yeah, I don't know 1 person distance learning is going well for. Some of the parents of the other kids in my sons class have given up all together. They aren't even trying. They figure the teachers can get their kids back on track next year.
If they keep this up, and don't start until 2021 I'm pretty sure those protests are going to get much bigger. People are not going to comply much longer... I don't think they'll be able to pacify people until Sept. In our area, people are already done distancing. We have more information about the virus. We are no longer at capacity in the hospitals, they need to base their projections on what the numbers are, not what they could be.

Yes the positive would be equal learning for all no matter what district you live in. He said why would you have 1 teacher teach 30 kids if they could do much more electronically (or something. Of that nature). My mouth was hanging open in shock. What will this do to teachers today? How do they expect this to work? And how the hell are parents supposed to go out and earn a living ? What - they have to hire a babysitter to stay home and learn on the computer while they work??
What is happening here ?!?!!

It very clearly sounded as if he thought we could drastically cut the amount of teachers, and drastically increase the amount of technology.

He should come by my house one day and see how distance learning is really going. I should record it and send it to him... We had a 2 hour fight this morning over drawing pictures... It was a silly assignment and my son didn't want to do it but had to. It doesn't take the place of regular schooling - you can do it maybe on a snow day or if a child is out sick (but, isn't that sick) but, it can't be used continuously...

I suppose his plan is to fire a ton of teachers and then force parents to quit their jobs to stay home and supervise distance learning.
