Removing sidewalk...can you?

If you live in the Town of Hempstead, can you remove a section of your sidewalk to put in a garden? Is it a legal thing to do considering there is a sidewalk that extends from one corner to the next?

I’m ToH and there are several homes around me that have no sidewalk. I actually can’t stand it because it forces people to walk in the street. This used to drive me especially nuts when I would take DD for walks when she was in the stroller.

I would imagine the town wouldn't allow this but I'd call to find out.

Also true. I always say my neighborhood is the only place untouched by Darwinism.

The majority of houses have sidewalks. There will be random ones that are all grass so at some point there must have been a way to get rid of the sidewalk otherwise these grass walks would not exist.

why would you want to do that? I feel like that would look weird, unless I am just visualizing it wrong

Lmao we are in NJ and the town made us put in sidewalks in order to get a CO. We were a corner lot that never had sidewalks before....I was so angry because people who walked in our neighborhood never even used the sidewalks because the existing ones were already in terrible condition.

I’m TOH. There is a house down the block from me the grassy curb near the street, but they still have a sidewalk. They put pavers in where the grass used to be. Not sure if they needed a permit to do that. But I can’t see TOH approving a house to completely remove their sidewalk.
