Father's Day question

I'm looking for some easy suggestions to do for my boyfriend on Father's Day. Normally, I would let his ex-wife round up the kids to do something (that's what my ex and I do), but apparently, she never did anything, even when they were married.

He has 4 kids - ranging from 4 - 11 years old - and I don't see them very often so I'm not sure how to arrange something with them.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what would be a nice thing from them? I thought about a craft that they could do for him, but I'm not sure what. I could also see if they would be ok letting me take a photo of them and having it framed.

Re: Father's Day question

Is this a surprise, or something you can coordinate with him?
Something that I would like, is to have a project that I thought I could do together with DC. I do a bunch of projects with them. We've built several cabinets and bookshelves together, but my DC are 13 and 16, so I can do bigger and more involved projects.

When DD was much younger, we got some of those birdhouse kits, where everything is pre-cut, and we just had to glue or nail everything together, then paint it and mount it. It's a nice project that doesn't take much skill, tools, or space. Plus, DC enjoy helping the birds, and watching the birds use the birdhouse.

Of course, it doesn't have to be a woodworking project. If it's not a surprise, ask DH what he thinks he would enjoy doing with DC. Gardening, washing the car, painting pictures, going to Dave and Busters, etc.

It's not a surprise b/c I didn't know if it would be ok since they're not my kids. I like the idea of the bird houses - like the Lowes Build and Grow kits, since I know they're easy enough for young kids.

I don't know - that's tricky. They are young so I think it might be odd for you to contact them directly. Does he have them on father's day? I might take his lead at this point. If you are all spending the day together I like the idea of some type of craft they can all do together like GoldenRod suggested.

Are you all together on Father's Day? I would just plan a nice lunch or activity that your BF would enjoy.

We're also a 'blended family' and we don't do a lot for Mother's/Father's Days. It's tricky.

It's kind of weird timing. There's a family reunion that weekend so I'll be meeting some of his family for the first time. He does have them that weekend, but they'll be doing a local family brunch.

I think I'll try to talk to the kids at some point and offer them a choice - either the craft (like a bird house) or let them draw a nice picture to show their dad their love and I take photos of them to frame. At least then they have a choice in what they would like to do for him, and they're both gifts they can give to him while I'm not there and have his full attention.
