Any recommendations for a dr who takes insurance? I've never been diagnosed with anything before, but I feel like i definitely need to get a prescription for something! I have always been OCD about things, but it's getting worse to the point where I can't even enjoy going places and staying in the moment without someone making fun of me or telling me to chill out. I also find myself becoming ritualistic about certain things, like going to the bathroom 5+ times before bed because i'm convinced I have to go, and fixing the blankets and pillows multiple times to get comfortable. It may sound silly, but I've always been hesitant to talk about getting prescribed something because I know alot of meds cause weight gain and I don't want that to happen. Is there a med that doesn't cause that?

TIA :)

I see a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner but she doesn't take insurance. She was recommended by my therapist. It is hard to find someone who takes insurance to be honest. I use my out of network coverage.

I was really hesitant to go on medication too, thinking that I could deal with my anxiety and depression by myself, but I finally got tried of fighting a battle that I couldn't win I felt. I am taking Trintellix which is a newer SSRI that doesn't cause weight gain as much as the older drugs. Downside it is an expensive drug. It is important to see someone who can really evaluate you and prescribe the correct medication. You could try Cognitive Behavioral and Talk therapy first.

Have you researched ADHD? That may be causing some anxiety and OCD type behaviors. You will need to see a psychiatrist for meds.

I had a great experience at Hofstra for my anxiety (got me on a plane for the first time in 8 years). They use students that are working on their doctorate. They don't take insurance, but it was only $40 whenever I saw him. I think they work with the patient to determine how much to charge.

I would check your insurance to find a psychiatric provider to prescribe you medication. Is there something else underlying that you feel is causing the OCD like behavior? Also, what happens if you don’t complete the ritual? Are you able to go on about your day? It sounds more like anxiety related behaviors than OCD

I can go about my day for sure, but at night i truly convince myself i need to pee and when i go i don't have to lol... it's the weirdest thing. I tend to get it worse when I'm stressed, and I'm planning a party in a few days and have a few other things going on this month. It could be making me more stressed/anxious than normal
