Disney in August
We're thinking of going to Disney World at the end of August because that's the only time we can really go and we're assuming it won't be so crowded. Am I going to die from the heat or is it bearable? We were thinking of hitting the parks in the morning and then head back to the hotel pool in the afternoon. TIA!

Disney in August
It's hot, like SUPER hot. But, the attractions and shops all have a/c, so you won't die. Plan it like you said, go to parks, hit pool mid day then do parks again in evening.

It is doable. Crowds are lower, it is hot, but there are so many places to cool off. We have had trips where it has rained a lot, and trips where it has hardly rained at all. You have to be prepared to adjust your day, and to walk around in the rain a bit, sometimes torrential. Sun hats and lots of water for when it's sunny.
We used to do mornings, but now we usually do a nice breakfast, pool time and then hit the parks in the afternoons and evenings. You have to figure out what works for you. Lots of people recommend going to the park, then back to the hotel, then hitting the park again. That never worked for our family. I'm over rope drop, but we did it many times. You can get a lot of rides in. We also go for longer vacations so we aren't in a rush to be at the parks all day. But I get why people like to be there early.
I also find some parks easier in the heat than others. I have a hard time with Animal Kingdom in the heat. I find Magic Kingdom the easiest to do.
Feel free to ask me any questions. I'm a bit of an August expert.

One more thing to consider is that if it's for this August, you're already within the 180 days for adrs. So if certain meals are very important to you, it's goung to be harder to get them.

I'm totally new at this Disney thing. My DD is really only interested in seeing Belle and Minnie. Which meals would have them?

You can meet them without meals too. Although Belle would be at akershus along with about 4 other princesses.
Minnie would be at Hollywood and vine, chef Mickey, cape May and a meet and greet at each of the parks.

Grand Floridian bc you'll be on the monorail, could even get a theme park view of the fireworks. Plus you'd get the onsite perks of staying onsite (which you can't take advantage of the dining perk) but you can book your fast passes at Sixty days out instead of thirty.

You can meet Belle at the Enchanted Tales with Belle attraction (it's not a traditional meet and greet but the kids do take a pic and get her autograph) and Minnie is at the Epcot character spot.

I would stay at the Grand Floridian. On site is better than off site. I also wouldn't plan your vacation time around meal reservations. You can see a zillion characters for free at Disney. Their food at character meals (and most meals) isn't even good enough to plan a vacation around anyway

You will be fine. My husband makes fun of me because I complain that I am freezing in some of the attractions, but I'm a little weird like that! You can always walk through a gift shop for a blast of air conditioning, go to a show or less crowded attraction, or stop at a quick serve counter and get free ice water. Don't be afraid to ask for free ice water :)
Also, if you are going to have a stroller for your daughter, you must have a stroller cover or poncho for it and cover it every time you park it. The one time we forgot to cover it, the sky opened up and all the water in the world poured out. Our stroller cover also worked much better than a poncho.

Depends. Benefit of onsite is early fast pass booking and convenient traveling. Good if your kid naps and good if you wake up crack of dawn to do those extra magic hours. Great if you don't want to rent a car or worry about driving. Also good if you want to pack in character meals.
Benefit of offsite is a MUCH better quality hotel and service than onsite and you will definitely eat much better quality food and be pampered more. Good if you want to wake up, roll downstairs and get an excellent complimentary breakfast, have a great pool and amazing facilities (many places have camps and parents night outs).
Personally, we have done both and prefer the latter... but we go to Disney and Florida relatively often and we don't do many days at Disney.
Universal actually has GREAT resorts. Hard Rock & Portofino were impressive and fun and the food and drinks was awesome at both (plus you get the fast pass thing there to all rides at Universal with your room key). I'd check it out.

Agreed. We went at the end of June and I wouldn't do that again. Simply walking outside on our balcony to spray suntan lotion made us break out in a sweat. I was constantly sweaty and felt pretty gross waiting in certain lines where there wasn't much relief from the sun. It was so humid and only slightly rained two afternoons out of the week that we were there.

Disney in August
Went in August once... ONCE!! Never again, couldn't pay me. Hot, crowded and it made everyone irritable and cranky. Our best moments of the week were when we stay back at hotel at pool.

Disney in August
It's Florida it's hot...if it was unbearable people wouldn't be there. And they are ALWAYS there. It's been hot as balls there all week and it's April. It's been in the 90's in December.
If this is when you can go, go! End of August is light crowds, there is AC everywhere, most rides and ques are indoors, you take breaks with mid day food reservations etc.
Go in the early morning and again in the evening! Do not stress!

But i hear it's that Orlando is the hottest part of the US right now- in April! It's a fluke thing, I am sure, but you just never know how the weather will be.

we've gone in August the past 2 years in a row. with our son, who was 4 and then 5.
Its HOT as anything- not gonna lie!!! BUT, its doable. so many places to get a break from the heat, most lines are shaded, there are longer inside attractions and shows you can do for breaks form the heat. just make sure you drink lots of water (they give you water for free at any of the counter services places.). get one of those mister fans... stop at the splash area in magic kingdom or ride Kali river rapids in Animal kingdom to get wet. LOL book lunch reservations so that you're inside to eat for a little while in the middle of the day...
for us, the lower crowds at that time make up for the heat--

I saw!! This week they had HIGH 90's!!  I just checked the Orlando 10 day forecast and THANK GOD the heat streak is breaking............we leave ONE week from today and I booked May because it's usually a pleasant time to be there. It's dropping to the low to mid 80's. I could deal with that. 97??? KILL ME!

Disney in August
We went last July and it was 101 at the Magic Kingdom! It didn't feel THAT bad to be honest! But it wasn't terribly humid that day! We were in the park like 12 hours that day....had to get my money's worth since we only did one park day after our Disney Cruise
