Kind of freaking over my sequential screen

My results for open neural tube defect/ ventral wall defect really weren't good. I repeated the blood test & have to wait a week for results. The nurse told me this test isn't accurate so they repeat it when result aren't good but my results were bad, 1 in 9 risk. That seems like such bad odds. Chat Icon I couldn't sleep last night over this & began googling. If you could spare it, I would love those famous LIF prayers.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. I know how scary this is. With my second DS, I was told we were at high risk of spina bifida/open neural tube defects based on the AFP test. It was repeated and I actually got worse results. I was spoken to by multiple doctors about termination. It was so awful.

Well, my DS was born perfectly healthy, after all that. That test is notoriously incorrect, I have learned throughout my experience. Please try to relax and remember the test is not perfect. It was wrong in my case. FM me if you need to talk.

I also had high results come back. Repeat test was normal. Baby was fine! This test can definitely be wrong. Chat Icon

I never took that test because it's so inaccurate. My sis had a 1 in 4. Try not to freak. There are way too many bad false results I don't know why they even do it anymore.

Thank you ladies. I have a gut feeling my dating was off since my cycles are usually wacky we'll see. Report comes in this week but I am trying to stay positive. I guess more in depth sonos will be more accurate that this test report.

I know that if your dates are off, than that will effect the results. I agree that the in-depth sonogram of the spine etc is a good direction to go in now. We had that done, and the MFM said he was 95-96% sure my LO did not have any defects. That was as reassuring as it could be, and thankfully, he ended up being right.

I'll be thinking of you and keep us updated.

Same! They had me go to a geneticist and everything. My midwife kept saying my sonos looked ok and she didn't think anything was wrong. Thank God, DD was born perfectly healthy!

This.
I declined this as well as a bunch of others that were notoriously inaccurate.
