How do you feel about a coed baby shower?

It was a long journey for us to get to the place of having a baby and my husband is so super excited. My mom just started mentioning about a baby shower, how do you feel about a coed shower? Thoughts?

How do you feel about a coed baby shower?

We did and so did my brother and SIL. I think they're fine. Then everyone gets to celebrate the new baby.

How do you feel about a coed baby shower?

They are very common in many cultures and if it meant no stupid shower games then I'd be all in!!!!

I 'd be ok with it I guess but no way would DH sit through that. Come to think of it, I didn't even want to sit through a shower. I really didn't want one but felt I had to have one

Agreed. My sister is having a coed baby shower this summer- It's an outdoor bbq type of event, so it's more laid back and better suited for couples and children. However, my dh and a few guy cousins are kind of annoyed they have to go- There won't be any games or things like that, but the whole gift opening and all that is not usually something guys want to be a part of IMO

A lot of cultures do co-ed showers. I have been to quite a few and I think the difference is there is way less focus on opening presents and looking at baby things and playing games. Most of them I have been to have been more of a party with just eating, drinking, dancing, etc. and people brought baby gifts but just left them on a table for the parents to go through after.
I went to a shower though recently where it was co-ed and the men were in the bar area watching football, eating wings, drinking all while the women were in the room next door playing shower games and stuff.

DH and I went to a Jack and Jill Shower back in January. We both enjoyed it. All the guys seemed to have a great time. I do know in speaking with my friend (the one who had the baby), her MIL (who was planning the shower) felt a little burdened because it was almost double the amount of people because almost everyone did end up bringing a SO.

I've had one, and I've been to a few, and I like them better than women only showers. Coed showers are just like regular family parties where you get to see everyone who is important to you.

We threw one for a friend of ours years ago. I think Dad had more fun than mom, especially when opening gifts and describing and oohing and aahing at all the breastfeeding supplies. Chat Icon

My DH wanted to do it, but it didn't work out.

I think they are fine. In my family though, the guys would never sit through the gift opening. They would be where the alcohol is ha. So I guess if your family is like mine, they enjoy a good party, but the coed shower would probably still wind up being ladies sitting with each other, and men in a totally different area.

I love the idea but mainly because I hate hate hate baby showers. I wanted to do this for mine and just make it a fun party that happened to be a baby shower but DH shot that idea down. Anything to make it less like a traditional boring baby shower is a good idea in my book!

We went to one and it was fine. It was like a regular BBQ. But, getting my DH there was a giant hassle and the mom to be said her DH didn't want to be there initially either. He really had no involvement in the gift opening. If I recall, he was playing horseshoes with the rest of the guys while all the women oohed and ahhed at the baby gifts.

I think if your DH wants to attend, he should have that option and you guys can make that request.

I know DH would not be happy to go to one but he would go if other guys were going. He wouldn't want to sit through the gifts but then again, he showed up late to mine because he was watching a movie.

We had a coed baby shower. It was great! Everyone had a good time. We only played a couple games but made sure they were coed friendly.

Does co-ed mean availability of hard alcohol? Cause then I'd be all over that.

I'm not a fan of baby showers. So much so that I didn't have one!

If my baby shower was during the warmer weather months I would have loved to have a backyard coed baby shower. I think DH would have liked it but since my shower was in October at a venue, he was completely against the idea of getting dressed up and being stuck inside with all us ladies lol

Mine wasn't co-ed but you better believe their was lots of booze. Just because I had to suffer and not drink, didn't mean everyone else should!

Baby showers are torture enough- you NEED some booze.
