Zika- WWYD??

Hi Ladies,

I am supposed to leave to go on a cruise for my bff's bday on Wednesday and I just found out yesterday that I'm pregnant! I had a MC a few months ago and of course I'm super nervous in general, now with all the talk of Zika I am even more concerned.

Would you not go on the trip? Or go and not get off the boat in Mexico and completely cover myself in spray? (It's a short cruise with only the one stop.)

Leaning toward just cancelling but I know she is going to be super angry with me and I doubt the boat is going to be all that generous with a refund for cancelling less than a week out.

Urgh... What would you do?

Thanks girls!

Honestly I would probably cancel. I believe most places are offering refunds for pregnant women. Let her be mad, it's not worth the risk.

ETA: Congrats on your pregnancy!

I don't think I'd go. I know it sucks, but better safe than sorry. I think with the zika virus concerns, the cancellation policies are a little more liberal. This isn't even you are TTC, you ARE pregnant.

Zika- WWYD??

Is Mexico on the Zika list? If so I would cancel. Way too risky especially in the first trimester.

Zika- WWYD??

So happy for you for pregnancy but ugh, what a decision to have to make!

Is not getting off the board in Mexico an option? I'd probably be really nervous the whole time as there could still be mosquitoes out at sea.

I think you have to do what you can to cancel. Hopefully the cruise line will also be good with a refund if you have a note from your Dr. that you are pregnant, and hopefully your friend will understand.

Just wondering what your concerns are with Florida? I'm leaving in 10 days for Disney and wondering now if I should be double checking with my dr? I thought it wasn't in Florida yet and it's not mosquito season there...

You are fine in FL We live a few hours north of Orlando and the only cases here so far from people who got sick/bit while they were abroad.

I just found out that I'm pregnant with my third and they are telling me to be extra cautious once mosquito season begins. I wouldn't worry until May.

Thanks! And congrats to you!

And to answer the original post, I wouldn't go because Mexico is on the CDC warning list. And congrats to you also!

Def wouldn't go. Nothing is worth risking the health of my baby.

Even if you don't get off the boat in Mexico, there are still mosquitos on the water.

Dr's note indicating you are pregnant, and with Zika concerns you are unable to travel. The cruise line should refund you everything. As for your friend, she will understand, maybe you guys can do something fun together when she gets back.

No, I would not go. Let your friend be as angry as she wants. IMO, it's not worth taking a risk with your baby. Your only job now is to protect that LO!

My trip isn't until late April, and they've found 10 cases in FL already.. I figured I would talk to the airlines and see if I would be eligible for a free cancellation should we decide not to go. I would not be worried going right now, but in late spring/early summer it might be more buggy

All 18 cases in Florida are people that were infected outside the US. None were infected in Florida. I would continue to monitor it in the next two months but just figured I'd make that point.

I fully intended on going, and still REALLY want to go. it's my parents and my in-laws who are driving me nuts about it :( As of now, it looks like i can't get the flights cancelled anyway. Not considered a threat yet
