Hospital Tour
At what point did you (or will you) do your hospital tour? Any info specific to Stonybrook hospital? TIA!

We signed up for a hospital tour on March 9th at NYU Langone. I'll be 33 weeks at that point. They do it kind of weird though- you don't actually tour the hospital. It's a free class called "Ready, Set, Baby" held in the hospital with a virtual tour. I guess they don't want a bunch of people wandering the maternity ward.
ETA: This is the description: "Take your first steps and join us at the medical center to learn what to expect when having your baby at NYU Langone. This session will detail your OB journey from arrival through discharge and after you return home. Learn all you need to know from our Community Liaison/Nurse Educator who will lead you through a PowerPoint presentation which includes photos and video highlighting our units and special programs in a comfortable environment. Question and answer session will follow presentation."

I did it when I was around 33 weeks also. I actually thought it was really helpful as a first time mom who has only ever been in the hospital for myself once, and that was the emergency room. My hospital (in NJ) is really large and there are different entrances to go to depending on what time you arrive (after hours to emergency, etc.). They also gave pre-registration paperwork, info on the lactation center, paperwork that you can pre-complete for the birth certificate so you don't have to do much paperwork once you're there. It was good to see all of the different spaces, and hear first-hand what their priorities are (skin-to-skin, rooming in, etc.). And it was less than an hour. For me, definitely worth it to at least have seen the space where things will happen before it's that crazy time. It was also free at my hospital, so I didn't see why not. Good for DH to see too, just to give him an idea what to expect also.
My hospital asks that you send the pre-registration paperwork by week 35, so I think I went at around the right time.

I took one around 20 weeks at stony brook but only because I switched to the midwives. They had a meet the midwives night to find out more info on them and this included a hospital tour. If it wasn't for switching I wouldn't have taken a tour.

Never did. I didn't understand the need for it. The showed me where to go when I arrived and wheeled me to my room after I gave birth.

Hospital Tour
I did it at 31 weeks. Very glad I did. I'm delivering at a NYC hospital though and didn't even know where the entrance to the building was before our tour. We also found out about private rooms, the parking garage, and guest policies. It also made me more at ease seeing where I was going to be as I'm a visual person!

Funny thing. For dd1 we did the whole baby class/tour. Dd2 different state different hospital. We were like eh, we've done it once don't need to again. Well when we got to the hospital I was in severe pain with contractions at like 3/4 am we didn't know where to go. We parked got out went in could t find our way around. I was pissed off lol. We got back in the act and drove around. Dh got out and aided the security guard and we parked and walked in and got directions. Lol. I was not a happy camper. That whole beginning part of how they run their maternity ward was so different then the first. My blood pressure sky rocketed. There were other issues but whatever.
So this time another star anther hospital lol, we are taking the tour. I don't want a repeat. All In all we were fine where had originally pried but had to walk further around but we were in panic mode. I don't wnant that again. I what to know exactly what to expect.

Hospital Tour
I didn't take one with my first since I was so familiar with Stony Brook. I'm going to be delivering this one at a hospital that I've never been to so I'm definitely going to be taking a tour! I'm going to aim for around 25 weeks since I was on bedrest last time at 33 weeks.

I did meet the midwives at stony brook at around 28 weeks. Even though this is baby number 3 it's my first time at this hospital. It was one less thing for me to worry about where I have to park, go, what the rooms and policies are. I found it extremely helpful.

This is what is really important to me and why I wanted to make sure I do the tour. I have a lot of questions about what will happen after birth (what tests are done right away, are they done in the room, can my DH accompany the baby if they are done elsewhere, rooming in vs. nursery, availability of a lactation consultant, can DH stay overnight, other guest policies, etc.) and I know I can ask my doctor, but I want to hear it firsthand from the hospital. Also, I believe they give pre-registration papers as well.
I am slightly familiar with the hospital as I've visited a friend who delivered there, but her baby was in the NICU so she might have a different experience than I will. At least I have general knowledge of where to park and where to check in, though then again this was 3 years ago.

like 30-32 weeks but try to schedule early because sometimes they cancel on you.
at stonybrook and it was worth it.

Hmmm good thing to keep in mind. Do you mind sharing where you delivered? I do have my aunt, who is a L&D nurse and lactation consultant (though at a different hospital), so I know she'll definitely be an advocate for me as well. DH isn't firm enough on these types of things, ya know?

I am doing a SB hospital tour bundled with some classes on 2/27. I will be 34 weeks. They only do the Saturday classes/tour the last Saturday of every month or on the first Wednesday nights of every month I think.
So definitely call in advance or you might miss your opportunity to go.
