IF you transferred 2 (or more) embryos in IVF....
Please take my poll. Im going on round 2 of IVF in the next month. The debate last cycle was putting one or 2 back. They recommended 2 for my age (36 going on 37). I put back the one really good one and had a chemical.
as I will be at the max benefits after round 2, this is probably the last time I can do this. So I think its all or none this go around. (although the # of eggs and quality etc at retrieval will be my final determining factor).
Curious to see how many people put 2 back and actually got 2 babies.

IF you transferred 2 (or more) embryos in IVF....
Round 1 - Put 2 back - BFN
Round 2 - Put 3 back - BFN
Round 3 - Put 2 back - BFP with a singleton
I think it depends on the quality of your embryos and your doctor's recommendation. I was with RMA (round 3 only) and they usually like to do SET, but recommended that I put two back and I went with their recommendation. I now have an 18 month old DS.

Im with RMA as well so I know the deal with SET. but they were also recommending 2 for my age. Im terrified of two..lol

Round 2 fresh ivf - put two, have 1 dd from it

Oh and this isn't an option in your poll, but a good friend put back 1 and it split into identical twins
And a work associate I knew put back two, 1 split and she ended up with triplets (incl identical twin boys)

Yeah. The one with twins lost them both around 16 weeks. They were very very rare. Mono mono. They shared a placenta and a sac. Any more rare they would have been conjoined. They split late.

round 3 - transferred 2 - currently pregnant with fraternal twins

My best friend transferred 2, had a singleton girl. Transferred 2 the second time, had triplet boys- 2 identical, one fraternal.

Unfortunately, you have to do what you're comfortable with.
We put 2 back and it was BFN. While twins would be difficult at first, we didn't have any children and knew we only had 1 shot (none of the embies made it to freeze so we went all in. Twins for our first child would have been ok. After I already had 1, twins would have terrified me.

haha..thats where I am at. However, the more I think about it, and realize this is my last shot..benefits will be capped out and I certainly dont have the cash to pay out of pocket..I think im going to have to do 2.
but ultimately what they get from retrieval the next time will factor in that decision.

Ivf 1-put back two bfn
Ivf 2- put back two bfp-miscarried with 1
Ivf 3 never made to transfer
Ivf 4-put back two, two implanted but lost one at 6 weeks but gave birth to the other.
Trying for second child
Fet-transferred 2 bfn
Fet-transferred 2 bfn
Ivf 1- transferred 2, lost one at 6 weeks and gave birth in August to the other.

This is how I got my triplets too :) it does happen. Any ivf procedure where they manipulate the shell of the embryo (icsi, hatching etc) increases the chances of An embryo splitting. Ask your doctor about their identical twinning rates.
