What I found interesting is when it said people sometimes choose to transfer them back at a time they are least likely to get pregnant. I never heard of doing that.... but it makes sense for people who don't want to just "abandon" their embryos.

Yeah, I found that really interesting too. I like the idea, but still feel like i'd rather them have some benefit by being used for research...not that that's an easy choice either...

It is a really good artivle and it got us thinking about what if we had did IVF and had leftovers...I would want to donate to research and DH does not feel the same...we are still discussing

Very intersting article.
I'm waiting for the first bill for my embies that are left. DH and I are pretty sure that we are done, but I just can't bear the thought of making a FINAL deicsion as of yet.

I like that idea too, however I agree with you as well, if there can be something gained thorough research and I can give back to the science that has helped me, I would like to do that. But I can't do that yet either, so I will pay storage for now.

The article is VERY interesting. I also think about my 12 frosties all the time, now that I have the twins. Before I had the girls, I just thought, oh those could be future children, now it is a much different feeling. Those are my daughters potential siblings. wow.
When do they start asking you to pay for storage??

At LI IVf they told me the first year was included and than after that I would get a bill. It hit a year last month and I still haven't rec'd anything.

I just wanted to say that we have been very blessed from those who have decided to donate their extra embryos. We have two beautiful little girls which are results of donor embryos. Actually, the oldest (6 yr old) resulted from a 3 day embryo that was only 4 cells and poor quality, but she survived and is a very adorable and smart little lady. We have been given two precious gifts that will be cherished by our family forever. We are about to do one more donor embryo transfer June/July.

WOW.. .That's a great story!! I am consistently amazed and blown away by the generosity of others. If not for the selflessness of other women willing to help people in our situation, I would not have my family either.

if u do not mind me asking to donate do the embryos have to be from a person that was fertile or just overall healthy
what i mean is if we were to donate what we had left would they be accepted bc we had issues before getting pregnant such as clotting and or diabetes and if fam history has cancer and stroke

My doctor, Dr. Check (Cooper Center), in Marlton, NJ has a donor embryo program. All embryos are excepted. A list is sent out every three months with all of the embryos that are available. Each donation has an information sheet which tells you how many embryos are in the batch, if a pregnancy was or was not achieved, general characteristics of the male and female donor like height, weight, hair/eye color, etc., and health information for them and their families...allergies, cancer, high blood pressure, etc. It is about the same amount of information that you would get if you were adopting a child. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any additional information.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting. I found it interesting where they mentioned the couple getting divorced and the wife wanting to use the embies and the husband fighting it.
I know when we signed our IVF paperwork, we had to sign off what we would do in all different scenarios: divorce, if I died, if he died, if we both died. Our heads were spinning. But I see why they make you do it.

This is called generous transfer... but it's essentially the same thing as discarding since your implanting at a time that you know you can't get pregnant.
