Re: When do you put on heat

I put ours on yesterday. DS is already sick and I don't want him to get worse. The house is cold in the morning.

When do you put on heat

It's comfortable in our room at night but my daughters is chilly. It's reading 60 when we get up, I may have to put it on this week. I was hoping to wait it out longer but DD is only 7 months.

It's on for the season now. We have oil so it's pricey

When do you put on heat

Once I'm cold, we turn it on. It's been on and off since September.

Our air conditioners aren't even out of the windows yet, so not until that happens.

Re: When do you put on heat

We hold off a lot longer since we got an electric fireplace. We can pile on blankets at night and it warms the main area of the house up nightly. We save money on oil because I am not constantly cranking up the temp.

same here and I actually used my bedroom one last night! We like to sleep with lots of blankets. I'm surprised so many people have turned their heat on!

Re: When do you put on heat

our ACs are still in the window I want them out ASAP though I don't think we will need them anymore. waiting on DH to do this.

with that said we have turned the heat on upstairs a couple times for DC cause my DS seems to be very cold and waking up. ( I hated to do it cause I felt with AC in the window the heat is going right out. I have gas heat now so I am little less "strict" about the heatChat Icon )

I wont leave it running all the time (meaning keeping the switch on rather than keeping it off when we aren't using) till probably November.

Re: When do you put on heat

We haven't yet but did put heavier bedding on and wearing socks to bed. We also have a cast iron stove that we like to put on for the chillier days. We've saved so much with our wood burning stove.

We used to keep the house pretty cold and just wear long sleeves around the house but now we have our 4 month old who has refused to be swaddled since birth. I have put the heat on the past 2 nights. Her hands were like ice when I went in to feed her Friday night. We're gonna be in for big oil bills this winter Chat Icon

When we are cold.

but the heat turned on without wanting it to a few time in the early morning, so I turned it down a bit more. Not ready to use the oil

You can turn the whole system off so it won't turn on at all until you are ready.

but wont that turn my hot water off as well? when I go to take a shower I have to turn the burner back on?

Yep - we don't have a separate hot water heater. Our boiler heats our hot water so we can't turn the burner off ever.

We haven't turned ours on as of yet either.

doesn't the thermostat have an on and off switch. both of mine do and I have them off you should be able do that and not effect your hot water.

Same here. I turned it on once to make sure all the heaters work, but we've been wearing sweatshirts and extra blankets at night. Nothing cozier

no, I think on/off is on digital thermostats, I still have the old round shaped one so I don't think I have an on/off,

I cant turn my burner off because it will stop heating shower water, Ill try turning it down further.
or don't sleep with windows open lol

Re: When do you put on heat

We have to get our duct work cleaned out first before we can turn the heat on. That's not until Saturday! I would have had the heat on this past weekend if I could have!

You could just turn the thermostat down really low in that case

My thermostat turns off only the heat, not the hot water. We keep it off all summer
