Has anyone had automatic start installed ....

...I have an older car (2007) but it has no mileage on it (less than 30k). I literally use it to drive to the train station and back -- and small errands in town. I do not want to buy a new car bc it is a payment id rather not have when I am hardly ever in it -- but going into this winter without automatic start is already giving me chills. I spent so much time last winter warming it up, breaking out the ice scraper, etc. Would love to wake up, start the car and go outside to melted ice that can simply be wiped away.
Anyone ever get automatic start installed in an older car? Was it worth it, and did it cost a fortune?

I got one for my moms 98 civic a couple years ago depending on what you get it the starter can cost less than $100 and sometimes esp. around holiday places like best buy and PC Richards has free installs! my mom thought it was completely worth it Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: I might be wrong on the priceChat Icon but it definitely wasn't a lot of money!

I had one installed, not sure of the price as it was a gift. I can't imagine it was more than $200 though. I love it, can't believe this is my first time having it!! Not this summer, but last summer I even used to cool the car down before I put DD in on really hot days.

It's between 150-200 dollars and a billion times worth it.

I'm just laughing at "older car".... Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have it on my 2000 truck, and my 2002 car. One was installed by the dealer (in 2000), and one was aftermarket (in 2002).

I had mine done at Movin-On Sound in Franklin square on Hempstead tpke, good install, everything was easy, and they've been there forever.

I think we paid about $300 for ours, we got one with a 2way transmitter (this was $100 more), so it beeps that the car is started, or a different beep if it isn't. It also has a longer range. I've started it from the train on the way into the station before I could see the parking lot, nevermind the car.

Love those guys. I lived a few streets behind them. Been a fan of theirs since they opened. Good people. Miss them!

Re: Has anyone had automatic start installed ....

I had one of these installed in my very first car, circa 2001.

It was a Toyota Corolla that leaked oil Chat Icon

But my parents got me an auto start for Christmas. Back then, they were "NEW" lol and more money than they are now... It was like $300 with install.

But, I know they have come down in price.

Either way - SUPER worth it for the winter months. I would start it from my bedroom window - this was when I was in HS, mind you - and then I would get into my toasty car.

What was also nice was when it snowed or frosted, the auto-start would melt everything off the windows. I even got used to setting it to how I wanted it to go on the morning after, when I left the car the night before. It was fun :)

I had one installed in my 2003 Dodge Neon. Best thing ever. It was a deal we found in farmingdale I think. I feel like I always see deals pop up right before it gets cold.
We also got a Groupon deal for my 2012 Mazda6. Love it.

I should also add... it's pretty phenomenal in the summer too.

COOLING down the car on a 100 degree day is just as great as warming up a car on a 2 degree day! Chat Icon

Actually, remote starters for cars were invented in the 1960s. In the 1990s, only "car guys" really knew about them. It wasn't until the 2000s that they started become common.

My aftermarket one, in 2002, was under $300 (not by much), but it was the remote start, alarm, and it also opens and closes the front windows with the remote, as well as two-way communication and screen on the key fob.

Now they have ones that can be controlled with a smart phone from anywhere in the world! (with a monthly subscription)
