talk to me about your baby and scheduling

My baby will turn 3 Months this upcoming weekend. We had gone for his check up and the Pedi wants me to start putting him on a schedule-

I was wondering if you have a set schedule for feeding (formula) & sleeping it seems my baby sleeps when he wants & eats when he wants. (which i thought was ok)

He usually feeds every 3-4 hours
we change him after, play for a little and let him tell us when he wants to nap. Sometimes it can be 3 times a day, some cat naps, some are longer
so I am trying to work out a schedule.
He is in daycare 2 days a week, and w my parents for 2. The remainder of the week is myself ad my DH

my LO is in bed for the night at 8 and sleeps till about 1 am. So I am looking for some ideas on scheduling the in between times

You will hear different opinions on this but I personally think 3 months is young to force a schedule. Especially since he's already in daycare, they kind of establish their own schedule with the babies. I would maybe try and follow their schedule at home or just use it as a guideline. But I don't think a real schedule is necessary at that age. So long as he's getting decent sleep at night and eating regularly, I don't see any issue.

It sounds as if you do have a schedule! Eating every 3-4 hours, play and then sleep. Also, you have a set bedtime. For 3 months, that sounds good to me!
Don't listen to your doc. You are doing great!

talk to me about your baby and scheduling

I never once tried to put my DS on a schedule. Even to this day it is very loose.

He ate when he was hungry and slept when he wanted to.

Now at 2.5 he eats around normal meal time and naps (if he feels like it) around noon ish but that changes with out schedule and goes to bed by 9ish.

I never felt a schedule was necessary.

We never scheduled DS and I doubt we would've been able to get him onto a schedule at 3 months. DS is 17 months now and has basically fallen into a schedule, but it's very loose. We just follow his cues on most days, unless we have plans, and then we structure his day around that. I'd never want to live by a schedule so that our weekends were so rigid we couldn't make plans during his nap time, for example.

Same here. That being said, it doesn't work for everyone and you have to do what works for you and your family.

They start to develop their own schedule. Basically it's a pattern of eat, play and sleep.

looks like you have a schedule and to be honest if your LO is not in your care the entire time you may have deviations in that schedule depending on where they are. Sounds like you are ok with it right now. Eating and sleeping they usually dictate anyway. The other stuff is just filler.

The only thing I would say is get a night time routine. It will help you as your LO gets older. Now my 2yo just tells me goodnight and thats it.
