This sounds like my dinnertime and it's just my three year old. She's been out of control. Although the 4 month old seems to always wake up from a nap or need to be fed just as we're sitting down to dinner--no matter what time dinner is served. To add the chaos, I'm often BFing at the table. Chat Icon

DS1 is usually fine at dinner. DS2 throws food, shrieks, has meltdowns if he doesn't get what he wants, etc. DH and I almost always eat after the kids are done. DH cooks fairly elaborate meals that the kids won't eat. Plus, having DS2 in the highchair allows me to get a few things done around the house. Otherwise, he's following me around whining and asking me to pick him up. I hope we have more relaxing meals one day. Chat Icon

The most miserable part of my day. My son eats Nothing. Well yogurt, goldfish and pbj. He's gone to bed sans dinner for the last 3nights and I want to cry as I take him up there like I'm a complete failure Bc he's eating so poorly. Safe to say I hate dinner

It's most likely that way because your LOs are very young. Things calmed down considerably once my kids turned 4. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

She comes out, whines "I'm hungryyyyy".
Then we name like 14 things that she vetos, and on number 15, she says ok. Then I make it. Then she waits until my asss justttttt hits the couch cushion to ask me for a drink. Then repeat this for a napkin, a spoon, etc....
Then DH and I eat dinner when she goes to bed.

What is dinner time like in your house?

We only have one toddler. Some nights she's awesome, other nights it's chaotic and drops her fork, doesn't want to eat what we gave her, I'm getting up for things, etc.

I usually cook and feed DS around 5. When DH gets home at 630ish he and I eat. We all eat the same thing but DS just eats earlier.

By the time i pick the kids up from daycare and get home its already 6pm and then feed them between 6 and 6:30. DH doesnt get home until at least 7, sometimes later. We eat after they go to bed, most times its after 9 or even close to 10 bc we dont start cooking (or placing the takeout order) until after they are asleep. I would love to eat together but its just not doable right now. The hours from 6-8:30 are just too crazy!

Dinner time is definitely hectic! We have 3 kids ages 4 and under.

We usually eat at 6:45 or 7 because that's when DH is home. I try to have everything ready (cooling on plates, cups filled with water, napkins, utensils) and then just put everything onto the table when we sit down to eat this way there isn't too much getting up during the actual eating time.

I don't fight the kids as far as what they are eating. They're presented with everything but can eat whatever they choose from their plates knowing that they won't get dessert unless they eat some veggies.

We use no-spill cups at the table/high chairs too to make it easier.

It's still hectic but not too bad! Actually probably one of my favorite times of the day :)
