NewLeaf2012's Husband Died/ Link to Donation Site to Help w/ Funeral Costs
NewLeaf2012's husband passed away suddenly on Easter Sunday. We feel horrible for her and her young son, Aidan. She is a long time LIF'er (who posted under another name before she became NewLeaf).
Many people want to do something to help, but don't know what she needs. Suffice it to say, Kerry is not made of money and the cost of a funeral is certainly not cheap. She is devastated by his death and would like to help relieve some of the financial stress so she can focus on her son and start to deal with what has happened. We have set up a donation site to help her.
Please help if you can.

I just gave. Perhaps if you included some more information others might help out. If this is to help with a funeral, you might add funeral to the post's title, more might click on it.
I am so sorry for them both, and for their families and friends.

I think this is a great suggestion. People sometimes need more details in order to donate to things.

What details would you need to make you donate?? The girl lost her husband Easter Sunday...the little boy doesnt have a father....asking for details of where the money is going is just ridiculous. ..

I think she just means more people might click on the post itself when scrolling through the FHF board. If they don't notice the emoticon, a donation site could be for someone participating in a charity walk.
Not that people need to know where every dime is going.

I donated. I feel so sorry for Kerry and Aidan. So sad to lose your husband and father to your child on Easter. Many thoughts, prayers and hugs from all of us at LIF!!

I had skipped this post for days. I had no idea someone lost their husband, whereas the word funeral would have told me that immediately. There are so many requests for donations everywhere I go that I like to know a bit before contributing as some are not very worthy. This is a terribly sad story. My condolences to you as well as to the poor woman and her baby son.

 I know this is very personal for you and we all care!!! I think the poster was just saying some more details in the subject, for those who dont visit Parenting would give them more info on this board to motivate them to open the post instead of thinking it was for a walk or something and pass it over. I feel horrible if the suggestion made you or NewLeaf feel worse, but I just think the intention was to help drive people donate. I think the intention was good This is a great thing you are doing, and we all want to do what we can. I am so so so sorry for their loss, I dont even have words.

For the third time, it was because people weren't opening the thread bc they thought it was donations for something like a 5k etc., and not to support an lifer who is going through a tragedy. Nothing to do with anyone questioning the actual cause.

Again I think the suggestion was just an idea of a way to get more people to OPEN the thread and give.

Neither do any of us.
But some people won't even open the thread at all because the title wasn't clear.

Thank you everybody.... It has been very hard on us but us but I am trying to keep it together for my son.. I have life insurance and my husband had a very small policy but it will barely cover the burial plot.. Some of you may know that we live on a fixed income. My husband had some medical issues and had to retire from his job in July 2010. Our son was only 9 months old at the time... It has been rough. I never expected to be a widow at 39 with a 4 y/o son... I am forever grateful to everyone who donated and to those who wanted to. His death was so unexpected as he was doing pretty well with his health... And for it to happen on Easter made it so much worse...
If you don't have life insurance, I recommend getting some...You just never know.
