Disney Cruise

Never been on Disney but have been on 7 cruises and LOVE THEM. It's my favorite way to vacation. I've heard excellent things about the Disney line.

Re: Disney Cruise

We went in November. So much fun!! I would do it again in a heartbeat. We went with my parents, sister and niece and none of us had ever been on a cruise before. We all loved it. The ship was so beautiful and well kept and the service was top notch. The staff could not be more accommodating. Whatever you asked for, nothing was ever a problem. If we did it again(and we will), i actually think I would book a longer cruise, as there was so much to do and the time just flew by. (on a 4 night you are really only on the ship 3.5 days because you board midday on the first day, and you are off first thing in the morning in the last day). We had hoped to see frozen, as it premiered while we were onboard, but there was no time! Only other thing to think of is the ages of your kids. They have to be three to go into the oceaneer club. My oldest are 8 and 6 and just loved it- they went at various times during the day and for practically the entire evening every night. Inhad to go drag them out at 11pm! But my little ones were too young for the club. They spent time in the nursery, which they enjoyed, but you have to reserve time and also there is a small extra fee. So I think I will wait until my youngest is 3 to go again, just because I think us adults would have more if all the kids were occupied!! Oh, and castaway cay was wonderful! Everyone said how great it is and I wondered if it could be true but it really is a great time! My parents booked a cabana and it was great for letting the little ones nap, but we would have been fine without it! Oh, and if you are a runner, definitely get off the boat early and do the castaway cay 5k.
I could go on and on about how much we enjoyed it. Feel free to ask any more questions!

I read about the club as well as the nursery...what safety measures do the use so that no one else can come get our child?

Also, did you get off at Nassau? Does it dock there, or do you have to take little oats to the island?

Nassau is a docking port. No tender required. Just walk on and off!

I wouldn't call it irrational. It's a valid concern if you've never been on a cruise. There really isn't much to be afraid of. The Bahamas are really close to the Florida coast. It's usually a pretty calm ride.

We just came back about 2 weeks ago, and we went last year at the same time of year. We did 3 nights on the Dream last year and 4 nights on the Magic this year. The Dream was a much nicer ship. I highly recommend it, especially if your kids are all over 3, when they can participate in the kids clubs. The characters are everywhere, and the shows are awesome. The food is just ok - not the best cruise food I have had. FM me if you have any questions.

IMO the cabana is not necessary - they are PLENTY of chairs and umbrellas if you go down to the second part of the beach. Castaway Cay is awesome - the food is good, the beach is amazing, and there is plenty to do. They have a splash zone for the young kids that DD loved. They sell beach toys at very reasonable prices, and rent equipment as reasonable prices as well.

DD1 would not stay in the nursery - we tried, but she wouldn't leave me. It is very nice and clean, and very safe and secure.

When you go on these cruises do you fly down the night before and stay at a hotel? Fly down the same morning ?
What about coming home?

I would recommend flying down the day/night before only b/c if your flight gets canceled or delayed, you don't have to worry about missing the ship. You can get on the ship as early as 11:00am in most cases and usually must be on by 3:00pm. Winter and hurricane season - I would never chance going down same day.

As for going home, I personally wouldn't book anything earlier than 11:30-12. There can be delays debarking the ship - there could be random customs inspections, fog or wind preventing the ship from docking on time, medical emergencies that delay the ship, etc. None of these things have happened in any of the cruises I've been on but I know they can happen. I'd rather have to sit around the airport for an extra hour or 2 than scramble around to find a new flight b/c you didn't make it.

Re: Disney Cruise

We went on the dream in April. Best family vacation we have taken. Ds1 loved the kids club. They have GPS type bracelets that are scanned in and out and if you want to pop in to check they can tell you where in the club your child is. To pick up, you need your key card and you have to know the password for your child. I went one time not realizing my husband already got D's and they told me exactly who took D's and the time. I felt very comfortable leaving ds.

We used the nursery 2x. Ds2 is not a fan of babysitters at all. We left him for 2 hours to go to Palo for dinner. I don't think he loved it there but the cm said he was ok most of the time playing. Also every room has 2 wave phones so while the kids we not with us we were totally reachable if needed.

You want to be convinced? Talk to my 6yo. He has only been once but he could be the Disney cruise line spokesperson he loved it so much!!!
