Re: Disney Cruise

We didn't get off in Nassau. It rained that day so we didn't think it was worth it. Castaway cay was great. You don't need a cabana there is plenty of chairs and umbrellas. The island has a lot to do we went with friend so for $20 we bought a bunch of sand toys for the kids dh and ds1 rented a water trike, there was basketball, air hockey etc in the shade the kids could even go to the kids club there. And they had awesome strollers there free to use which actually worked on sand so instead of taking my little one back to the ship to nap I just grabbed a stroller and walked around the island!

We went in November. So much fun!! I would do it again in a heartbeat. We went with my parents, sister and niece and none of us had ever been on a cruise before. We all loved it. The ship was so beautiful and well kept and the service was top notch. The staff could not be more accommodating. Whatever you asked for, nothing was ever a problem. If we did it again(and we will), i actually think I would book a longer cruise, as there was so much to do and the time just flew by. (on a 4 night you are really only on the ship 3.5 days because you board midday on the first day, and you are off first thing in the morning in the last day). We had hoped to see frozen, as it premiered while we were onboard, but there was no time! Only other thing to think of is the ages of your kids. They have to be three to go into the oceaneer club. My oldest are 8 and 6 and just loved it- they went at various times during the day and for practically the entire evening every night. Inhad to go drag them out at 11pm! But my little ones were too young for the club. They spent time in the nursery, which
they enjoyed, but you have to reserve time and also there
is a small extra fee. So I think I will wait until my youngest
is 3 to go again, just because I think us adults would have more if all the kids were occupied!! Oh, and castaway cay
was wonderful! Everyone said how great it is and I
wondered if it could be true but it really is a great time! My
parents booked a cabana and it was great for letting the
little ones nap, but we would have been fine without it! Oh,
and if you are a runner, definitely get off the boat early and
do the castaway cay 5k.
I could go on and on about how much we enjoyed it. Feel free to ask any more questions!

I read about the club as well as the nursery...what safety measures do the use so that no one else can come get our child?

The clubs and nursery are very secure. Kids receive a bracelet at the beginning of the cruise when they register for the club. They aren't allowed to leave the club without having their bracelet scanned, and they may only be released to adults that you have authorized. When the cast member scans the bracelet, photos of those authorized appear on the computer screen. In addition, you have to give a password.

I just want to add one fun thing I didn't realize it there are characters everywhere!! When we were in the terminal I saw Minnie posing for photos and was disappointed that there was a line to take a picture with her. But once we were on the ship it felt like there were always characters around. I guess a lot of them were scheduled appearances, but it seemed to always be going on, and without the lines you see at disney world. The cutest thing was on our last night we went to Palo, the adults only restaurant. When I picked my little guys up from the nursery, they gave me a photo of my 8mo with Ariel! She popped by the nursery! (I wasn't surprised to hear that my 2yo would not go near her!)

When we went the character lines were long. They had a Pluto PJ pajama party in the kids club it was so fun. Pluto showed up and the kids got a cute little color your own pillow case. Everything is scheduled in the daily navigator. So much to do. We stayed on board at Nassau and rode the AquaDuck and explored the ship. It was a blast

I did a cruise on the Disney Magic in November. I had a great time. We have 3 kids ages 2-8 and they keep asking when we are going back. We did book a 2nd cruise at a reduced rate while on board as we loved it so much!

I have only did one other cruise before and didn't love it. This one was great esp if you have kids. Food is ok typically resort/cruise food. The Disney private island can't be beat. I think it was so much better for characters than real Disney World (where we go every year practically). Ours was suppose to port in Nassau and the private island but before we went it got changed to Key West (not great for kids but we enjoyed a less crowded boat!).

PM me if you want any other details or to see pictures.

Re: Disney Cruise

I have never been on a Disney cruise, but for cruises in general, when we fly down depends on when we need to be on the boat & where we are leaving from.

I just went on a cruise out of Tampa & we went the night before & it was nice to be relaxed about getting to the boat. The boarding time was 11 to 2. I didn't want to fly really early, but for FL, you can go same day. It is a short flight, and there are several a day.
the 2 cruises we took from PR, we went same day & the one from Barcelona we wen the day before.

We have always come right back on the last day.

I looked into Disney cruises b/c a family member wanted to go and I learned that the rooms are bigger than most cruises and the bathrooms have a separate sink area outside of the shower area, so multiple people can get ready at the same time.

Disney cruises also offer included soda (it is extra on other lines) and they do not have a casino.

The service is supposed to be really good, too--all reasons that it costs more than other cruises.

Do you know why it was changed to Key West? Was it weather related? We are thinking of doing a Disney cruise in November but I'm not sure about the weather.

Re: Disney Cruise

DH and I actually went for our honeymoon since neither one of us had ever gone on a cruise. We heard that the Disney cruise was one of the best so we booked it and we LOVED it. We now have DS and we can't wait until he's a little older so we can take him on this cruise. We are planning to do a big family trip with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins; we can't wait. Worth every penny.

Re: Disney Cruise

We LOVE cruising and have done two DCL cruises. One 8night and one 7 night. They are excellent! The are outstanding for kids but adults love them too. Their service is beyond compare. Entertainment leaves something to be desired for the adults only. Family and child entertainment is beyond all the other lines. They don't nickel and dime you but you pay a pretty heavy price up front. The word Disney and discount don't come together in a sentence. The Dream would be great and we adored the Fantasy. I wouldn't go back on the Magic!

Disney Cruise

We've been on a Disney Cruise twice and loved it. If you have never been and you like Disney it is a must do. The characters were great and the ship was beautiful. Now that being said, we've done it twice and I'm done. While it was awesome, there was really nothing "adult" to do on the ship. The bars were dead, there is no casino and all the shows are kid friendly. We just sailed Norwegian and are going again in a few months and it has something for us all. DD is happy with the Nickelodeon characters and I'm happy with the casino lol.

Re: Disney Cruise

Just came back from a 4 night cruise on the Magic and I must say I was not overly impressed with Disney. I will say that I am not a fan of cruises either and I thought this would be great for the kids. They loved the kids club (ages 6, 8, and 16months) and it was very secure. No issues with that. They have bands the kids wear and then scan every 20 seconds or something like that and they know where the kids are at all times. The nursery was also very nice. The room was awesome. We had a 1 bedroom suite. With a balcony.

The weather was horrible, which probably does not help my negative feeling about the cruise. Cold, windy and rainy everyday. Didn't even bother to get off the ship in Nassau because of the wind and rain. Castaway was ok in the am, overcast but by 11am it was raining again, so back to the ship we went.

As far as activities goes, I felt it was really lacking. We had the 1st seating for dinner and after dinner the older 2 wanted to go to the club which was fine but then DH and I were left with nothing to do unless we wanted to go to a Disney movie or show. There was no place we could go with the baby that had any sort of music going on or anything until like 9:15 which really sucked because DH and I would have liked to enjoy some time together while the baby slept in his stroller and the other kids were in the club. I found it very boring. The food was good nothing I would be jumping up and down for again but definitely decent for cruise food. I may be soured by the weather but I will not be looking to go on another cruise again anytime soon. For me it is just too crowded, the pools are too small and the food is OK. I would rather go to an island somewhere then do a cruise again.

It's def. not geared toward adults and partying. Everything is family oriented. My kids went to the shows with me, they loved it, as did I. We did Bingo as a family, the trivia shows, etc. etc. But, one night when my son was in the teen club, and daughter was in the kid's club, I was walking the ship and ended up in the "District" (adult section) on the Dream. I was the only one in the lounge. I was actually laughing, but I did enjoy my 20 minutes of peace while eating my veggies and dip Chat Icon

I didn't mind that it wasn't adult orientated all the time but there was no in between, it was either the family or the adults only lounges. All I wanted was someplace to go with some music playing to hang out with my DH while the kids were in the club. I really thought there would be more to do in general. One afternoon they had a kids tunes dance party that was a blast but as soon as the 30 minutes was up, the music was turned off and that was that. It would have been nice if they even left a playlist going and the kids could have danced more KWIM.

We didn't go on the Magic, only the Dream, but the activities were non stop. As soon as one was done, we were rushing off to another. I said we needed a vacation after the vacation because we were running and doing SO much on that cruise! Maybe the different ships offer different activities though.

We were never given a reason - my DH just saw it posted on the website actually. It was done way in advance so I don't think it was weather related. Their website does say subject to changes. I would say we found out at least 4-5 mos before our trip. I now I read weather in November could be variable but we have perfect weather. 80's and sunny everyday! (we went early November - election day)

wow - we felt there was a lot to do after dinner with our 2 yr old. We also had first seating on the Magic. Afterwards the 6 and 8 year old always wanted to go to the kids club. So it was like a vacation each night with just our 2 year old. We'd go do the character meet and greets or go to some kind of kiddie dance party where my older kids would have felt too old for. One night at one of the lounges was a dance party with chip and dale, and there was always a young kid show in the small lounge (I remember the pirate one clearly her favorite thing!) and another night a dance party with Goofy. Then we'd pick up the big kids and head to the main night show.

Re: Disney Cruise

I did a 5 night double dip on the Dream last year (there are 4 night double dips as well). This is a cruise that goes to Castaway Cay twice. LOVE Double dips because Castaway Cay is the BEST port for so many reasons.

I love everything about DCL and could talk about it all day. Chat Icon

I've flown in in the morning but I actually find it much less stressful and more enjoyable to fly in the night before. First of all, if your flight is delayed you wont' literally miss the boat, and second of all, you're getting on the ship rested and ready for fun, not exhausted from an early flight.

We stay at the Hyatt inside the airport. You do have to get your own bags from baggae claim but the hotel is literally INSIDE the airport so it's very easy. In the morning, they will take your bags and they will magically appear outside your stateroom if you are using DCL transport. The hotel has great breakfast (not free though) and when you're ready you just walk down to get on the bus. it's so relaxing.

The nighttime activities at the nightclubs have always been packed. I haven't been on the Magic yet but on the Dream and Fantasy it was pretty active.

Well maybe DCL focuses more on the Dream and Fantasy now. Even the other couple who were with had been on the Magic 2 times previously and they said this time was different.

ETA - our original cruise was scheduled for Oct. but DCL cancelled it on us and it was supposed to be a double dip which I was so excited about.

I hope there is plenty to do on the fantasy this may at night for adults!

I plan on dropping the kids off at the clubs and the nursery after dinner and getting a drink at a bar or something else fun with DH before I have to go pick them up!

Never had adult only time on a family vacation and i am kinda excited!

I think you will be fine. If you are looking for a party atmosphere, you might be disappointed but there is a sports bar, there is another bar that was kinda cool and had free and tasty munchies avaliable. Plus dont count out simply putting on your suit and going in the hot tub or adult only pool!!!

We went on the dream with friends, I went out with my girlfriend for drinks, my DH another night went out with his friend, etc , We werent out until 1am but just to have some quiet downtime was amazing!!!

There are some activities, like "game shows" I think they had some form of a newlyweds game in one of the bars we were in!

You will have a blast!
