Feeling like a bad mom

I have never felt like this but this morning I turned my back on my 6 month old ds and he rolled off my bed onto the hardwood floor. I know accidents happen but I feel so bad

I will bet that almost every mom on here has a similar story. I dropped my 7 week old on the concrete sidewalk. We ended up in the ER and I was hysterical. Every nurse, even ones that weren't on my case, came in to comfort me and tell me their story of when they dropped their db.

I understand how you feel. But you are NOT a bad mom. A bad mom would have no feelings about it at all. You are a great mom!

Feeling like a bad mom

This happened to me recently. Dd was on bed laying down and I literally turned for a second. I was right there and she rolled to ground. I was in hysterics and felt horrible, like it was something that only happened to me. But everyone has a story like this. It's so common. You're not a bad mother!

DD1 rolled off my bed twice when she was little!! You would think I would have learned after the first time!!

I was piggy backing DD1 when she was 3 and went to put her on the couch. She hit the arm of the couch and rolled onto the floor, hitting her head on the desk on the way down. She needed 4 staples in her head to close it up!!

We've all been there....and unfortunatly it sometimes happens more then once!!

Re: Feeling like a bad mom

I totally understand. On Sunday, 13-month-old DD fell off the changing table onto the hardwood floor, flat on her back. I felt SO guilty, and for the rest of the day, had images of it replaying in my head. We aren't bad moms though, we're human. Chat Icon

Feeling like a bad mom

Same here, my dd fell off the side of the changing table. I felt terrible and we had a party to go to that day with a bruise on her head.

Like PP said, the fact that you do feel so bad means you're a great Mommy!! I'd say don't feel bad, but I know you can't turn that off.
When DD was about 5 months old, I was sitting her on the changing table, took off her onesie and her head WALLOPPED onto the wall. Chat Icon She had a bumb and a bruise, her first of each, caused by Mommy. I think I cried more than she did. Lesson learned so you know for next time.

Been there done that - twice!!!

DS fell out of his crib (we didn't lower the mattress in time before figuring out he can pull himself out) and once off our bed.

It happens and it is definatley a lesson learned...some of us require two lessons Chat Icon

Re: Feeling like a bad mom

I can still remember the bang my sons head made when he fell off the bed. I think most moms and dads have been there at some point.

It happens!!! Don't stress - something will probably happen again.

This past weekend, I was carrying 16 mo DS down the stairs and he had left my sneaker there. I stepped on it and fell with him and he hit his head pretty hard on the wood we have attached to the banister to keep the gate in place. I still feel horrible about it! He looked better that day but, the coloring of the bruise is changing and it looks horrific.
