My Experience with Highly Regarded Furniture Store

I know everyone speaks SOOO VERY highly of Behr's in Seaford, but I have to admit I didnt have a great experience with them. They werent rude to me by any means, but I just wanted to let you ladies know their prices are NOT the lowest in town like they try to swear by...

I went there yesterday looking for a specific collection, which they sell. First off they were absolutely non negotiable on price. Non negotiable on delivery fees. AND told me the collection is on backorder for possibly up to 14 weeks. They would not budge on price until we proved to them we found a better deal... They wanted websites and store names because they wanted to call the store and verify what we were telling them...

Well EVERYTHING happens for a reason, let me tell you! We went to another store in another city and found the EXACT same set for way over $500 cheaper!!!!! AND to top it off the collection at this store ISNT on back order!

I know Behr's is supposed to be the best in town, but ladies do your homework before going there. Just want to give you all a head's up so you dont get ripped off... They arent as cheap as you think... =/

ETA: The cheaper price we got wasnt because we even went back and forth and had to negotiate, but rather the price they gave us right up front...

Nope! I am totally with you 100%. Had the same experience nearly 8 years ago when looking into furniture before my 1st arrived. How expensive! I got a much nicer set from BBB and was able to use the 20% off coupons on each piece I bought!

I'm actually really surprised. We have nothing but great things to say about them with price, customer service and their pricing. One of the pieces that we ordered is backordered, so they gave us a loaner piece for the time being.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

I had a similar positive experience. We found the set we wanted at Behr's and then shopped around for prices - Behr's believe it or not was the only place willing to work with us on the prices of everything, ended up matching the lowest competitors price and everything ended up coming in a month early then expected.

Sorry you had such a bad experience with them Chat Icon

ETA: of course they're going to want the name of the competitor who quoted you a better price - other wise people could just walk in and come up with low prices off the top of their heads expecting Behr's to match or beat it. Unfortunately at the end of the day it's business and they have to try to protect themselves too..

Crashing from Parenting-

We went there and were totally unimpressed. We wound up getting a great deal on a set at BRU on black Friday and we couldn't be happier with it a year later. I just don't see the reason to spend $$$ when you can get the same look and decent furniture for much less.

FYI I had the same experience but they were neg. on the prices but would not beat the price of the other store just match it. I ordered from Crib and Teen City in Yonkers where my hubby grew up. Both of my SIL ordered there also so I knew they were good.

I also saw a piece there for my son and found it someplace else for 50% off! Thats almost $1000 less!

Place is a rip-off. I agree, make sure to shop around!

Re: My Experience with Highly Regarded Furniture Store

I have done A TON of furniture shopping in my life and when we've negotiated on price I have never been asked to prove where we got the lower price from. Especially the only thing we were asking them to truly come down was like $100-200 because I didnt even know I could get the furniture for so much cheaper...

Everyone will always have different experiences with stores and it can also depend on the salespeople, but this just blew me away... The difference in price made us both drop our jaws when we walked away...

Im SOOO happy they were unwilling to negotiate for the measly $100-200 we were trying to negotiate because they did us a favor and we saved a TON of $ and I got the set I wanted!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: My Experience with Highly Regarded Furniture Store

I had a great experience with them. I thought the price was comparable and the delivery they gave us free with some $$ off the overall price. It could have been the model we got or just the day.I know they were telling us the prices were going up in February for all items so we got the furniture before the date it increased.

I do think it depends on what you are looking for. Searching around is the best thing to do cause you can always find a better price for everything. I find that with all baby items.

Im sorry you had a bad experience and I hope that your post just makes anyone realize shopping around is the best thing to do before you set yourself up for a purchase in one place.

Glad to hear you got the bargain you did.

I went there with DH when prego with my first.. and they totally ignored us. No one asked us for help and we just walked around aimlessly and watched other couples get offered help. Finally said screw it and walked out and went to BRU. Never went.

I totally agree, we got our daughters sets somewhere else after we saw it at Behr's. We saved a ton on the furniture and the glider!

Re: My Experience with Highly Regarded Furniture Store

We went there when prego with my first and i would never go back. We over paid for furniture and bedding by alot! They didn't deliver the furniture when they were supposed too either. My bedding ended up being in back order too and i was not notified about that until it was late in delivery and "i" had to call them!! We just didn't know any better at the time....

I also found them more expensive/less negotiable than other stores.

We ended up getting a Romina set for way less from a NJ store who delivered to us no problem.

Re: My Experience with Highly Regarded Furniture Store

I think it depends on the brand of the set. We had a great experience 3 yrs ago when we got our crib and stuff. We went back to get a big boy bed to match for DS recently and got a great deal.

Re: My Experience with Highly Regarded Furniture Store

We had a similar experience with Behr's. We are in love with a Baby's Dream set. Behr's and Baby's World in Brooklyn are the only stores in the area that carry that brand. We decided to go to Behr's upon a recommendation. The salesman who claimed to be the owner, reeked of liquor and would not budge on price. However, we thought he was giving us a great price. We then decided to take a ride to Brooklyn and see what Baby World had to offer us. Vinny, the salesman, was very knowledgeable, sober, and non-pressuring. He gave us a price of $800 less than the price of Behr's right up front including free delivery to Long Island and free set up. Baby's World also carries the City Mini stroller for $100 less than Buy Buy Baby. We got these prices without even asking for a discount. Word to the wise, if you don't mind a trip into Brooklyn to save a few dollars and get great service then go for it!

Re: My Experience with Highly Regarded Furniture Store

I found Behrs to be totally overpriced and very stuffy showroom- hard to concentrate and walk through. I also got a very very bad feeling as soon as I entered the store and insisted on leaving the whole time I was there but..I was with my mom and mil who were eager to buy their 1st grandchild anything I wanted and they kept trying to find something there but I kept saying "Its not here, we have to leave." We found his nursery furniture at Babies r us. I cried when I saw it - I knew. ( hormones? )
