Re: do you have an alarm? poll

I grew up with an alarm (my house as robbed when I was a kid so my parents installed one) and for myself, I feel SO much safer having the house fully armed. It's on EVERY time we walk out the door and we set it at night when we're asleep. I also like to use it when I'm home alone and DH is working late. I sleep better knowing I have some protection, especially because I have a ranch and it makes me a little nervous knowing how easy it would be to climb in one of our windows.

It was probably about $2K to have the whole house down but SO worth it IMO. Every door and window is armed and we have a motion in the living room which (because of the layout) covers most of the house. We're also hooked up to central service.

Re: do you have an alarm? poll

We have one but I'm not sure why. I never had one growing up and neither did DH....in fact he grew up in a house where they never even had keys...just left the house wide open.

Re: do you have an alarm? poll

No. I have two BIG dogs and a heavy table leg under my bed to defend myself with. But in all seriousness, between DH and my two dogs, I feel very safe.

Yes. I never had one growing up, no need for one. But things are way different today. I feel very at ease with it. I also have a steele bat, if the alarm doesnt scare them.

Me too but I don't have a ranch. Thats the only difference. I have 2 motions, one on the ground level and one on the mid level that points towards our bedroom. There is no way to get upstairs without setting that off. I've set it off myself quite a few times! Chat Icon

I never had one growing up but in this day and age, you can never be too careful.

ETA: I also wanted one for the central fire alarm. I was always worried about having a fire when we're not home and no one noticing and calling 911. At least this way, god forbid, if we have a fire, it will auto notify the FD.

have had the alarm since we moved in - 14 years ago - central monitoring....the peace of mind is worth it. My apartment was robbed when I was a kid - in broad daylight on a weekend - and ever since then I've been scarred....

My motion is centrally located in the house so no matter where someone may get in if they try to get anywhere it will get them.

Now that we have our DD I was especially glad we had the alarm. Again, being in the ranch with bedrooms all on ground level I was a little nervous about someone being able to get into her room when she was sleeping and we were in another part of the house. I feel better knowing she is safe and sound too at night.

It definitely helps me sleep at night. I would only go without one if we had a big dog or two!

Re: do you have an alarm? poll

Yes we have an alarm.

DH had one growing up but I never had one. I grew up in a Brooklyn neighborhood that was very very safe. We never locked our doors...

Now with all these home invasions, I can't imagine NOT having one being that I work from home.

We also have a rottweiler and some weapons - if they get in, they aint gettin' out! LOL

Re: do you have an alarm? poll

We went with Front Point and are very happy. DH is away Monday through Thursday for work every week and I like the security it provides. Everything is wireless and you install it yourself. It's totally easy to do. We have a central alarm station, CO detectors, heat/smoke detectors and motion sensors. They're all hooked up to a 24/7 central monitoring station. We've had a few false alarms and they've always called us and dispatched the appropriate people (either FD or PD)

the motion sensors can be placed at a height taller than your dog. We had that done because of the pets.

We have a dog but the motion will not set the alarm off unless someone is over 45lbs. My dog is 18lbs so we have never had a problem.

Re: do you have an alarm? poll

see i think they are pointless

we live too far from the police station to be helpful - a smassh and grab - they are in and out fast and only want good stuff
- no one ever pays attention to an alarm going orrr and even if a service called the police they are t least 15 minutes away - a burgler could grab a lot of jewlery in that time

and the smart ones know how to disable them and get in
