How did you know you were ready?

How did you know you were ready to start trying?

Do you feel like you are 100% ready?

We are planning on TTC starting in April, after a vacation. I stopped taking the pill and am trying to get to know my body again after 10 years on the pill.

I think I am just nervous and scared to take such a big step, even though we aren't going to try for 4 months, I have been thinking a lot about it and meeting up with friends for holidays who all have recently had/are pregnant - so its the hot topic of conversation.

Re: How did you know you were ready?

since i have been posting on this board i have answered this question a lot...it seems to come up every few weeks...

my best advice is wait until you are both 100% ready. and you will know when you are ready. something inside you clicks and all the fears seem to go away. for us it was something we talked about doing for over a year before we were actually ready to try. we had set a time frame (like how you are saying april) but we ended up not being ready when the time came and we waited longer. i'm so glad we didn't rush into anything.

once we went for it i got pregnant right away - within 2 or 3 weeks of not being careful. we didn't expect it to happen that quickly and we weren't "trying" we just stopped using protection. i mean we were trying b/c we wanted to get pregnant but i was not temping, charting, checking cm all we did was have sex. because i had stopped the pill we thought it would take awhile but when it happened right away we were so overjoyed. then at 9 weeks i lost the pregnancy. now i am recovering and waiting until we are ready to ttc again.

i can't imagine going through all of that if we weren't 100% ready or even worse if we weren't in it together (meaning one of was pushed for the pregnancy). whether you have a loss, there are complications in the pregnancy, or everything is fine and you get a perfectly healthy baby in the end pregnancy is a big step that will change your life forever.

so like i said, i think you will know when you are ready. for us it was waiting until a bunch of things in our life lined up and we achieved a lot of the goals we had set (moving and buying a house, living off 1 salary, getting a 2nd car, DH getting a big promotion, taking one last vacation together). at that point we were comfortable financially, mentally, emotionally and felt like it was the right time for us. also my fears (about not being able to sleep in late, losing my freedom, being a mom, money etc.) went away. the pros about being a parent began to outweigh the cons and my nerves/fears really subsided. that was when it really clicked for me.

hope that helps.

Re: How did you know you were ready?

For us, we were planning to wait until July/August 2011 to start trying. I wanted to get pregnant sooner but DH was not ready yet so that's when we decided on. This month we actually had a pregnancy "scare" (for lack of a better word) and we thought we had gotten pregnant. My period ended up coming a week late (which is very unusual for me) and we both felt really disappointed which surprised us both because we hadnt thought we were really ready.

So now we plan to start in January, and like the PP said not trying in the aspect of temping, charting etc but to let be what will be. We're at the point now that if God wants us to get pregnant now, that's great and if it takes a few months that's fine too. Something definitely clicked for us last month and even though it's a bit intimidating we both feel really different now about the whole idea of having a baby.

Re: How did you know you were ready?

Honestly I knew I was ready after we kind of tried the first time and it didn't happen. I was so sure it would happen the first try, after the second time and it still didn't work that's when I realized how bad I wanted a baby.

Agreed. DH and I knew we wanted a baby but were both really scared about all that comes with it. With every month that I get BFN we are both more and more sure that this is what we want. My friend once told me after my second month of BFNs that it not happening right away will not only make me want it more but will probably make ME a better parent in the end. I chewed her out for saying it at the time (She got pregnant her first time trying) but in the end she was right. I never knew how badly I wanted it until it didn't happen right away.

Re: How did you know you were ready?

We started ttc a few months ago and on that first month, I was in a state of panic, so I knew I was not ready. DH and I knew ever since we were married, that we were going to wait at least 1 year before we start.

So, now I feel ready and want to try. I would like to have a Chat Icon or Chat Icon by the end of the year. --- At least I hope

Re: How did you know you were ready?

I think you just get a feeling. First it's like a little nugget of an idea, then it keeps growing and growing and all of a sudden, you really want to try for a family. I think until the baby arrives, you never really feel ready. Sh!t, even when I was pushing my daughter out I STILL didn't feel ready and I was literally shaking with anxiety in between every push.

The logistics-- home, finances, etc. all will fall into place.

Even when I was pregnant with my DC, I wasn't sure about having another child. Then it just clicked for me recently, and I decided I wanted a second. The prospect of another child to me is just as scary as thinking about the first one. I literally have all the same fears and doubts.

But I do know that once your child is here-- you won't have any regrets. I cannot explain the joy that she brings me. I have never been more in love with anyone or anything.

Re: How did you know you were ready?

I knew I was ready when I actually started to get excited thinking about being prego and starting a family with DH. I am still scared about all the changes that happen, but I know everything will be fine.
I also get super excited when I lurk on the pregnancy board. I get butterflies~it's weird Chat Icon

Re: How did you know you were ready?

something just clicked. it was weird... almost like, one day i could have gone either way and then the next day i wanted it more than anything in the world.
i came off the pill less than a month ago, so i haven't even gotten a period off the pill yet - and already, i know if/when it comes, it's going to be so disappointing that it didn't happen this 1st month.
i want to be pregnant yesterday.
it's a feeling. you'll know.
