town of oyster bay sanitation

we have a garage full of rolled up carpet, doors, molding etc

do we call them to pick it up or just put it out (little by little, all at once) ?

I am coming from a coop with huge dumpsters so I have no clue and dont' want a nasty note from sanitation Chat Icon

Depends on your town... I live in the Township of Oyster Bay, but my town has a private garbage collector that we pay for (not town provided so it's not in our taxes).

The good thing is they take everything! No special calls needed, they just ask that bulk items (like appliances) be put out on the second collection day each week.

There are certain things they won't collect, like hazardous materials, but that's pretty standard.

You probably have to call special pickup...they'll want to know what you're leaving out and then they'll come get it.

There is no special pick-up in TOBAY... they don't do it.

You can put up to 10 "pieces" of gargbage (this counts as each bag or item) out each pick-up and one of them can be a refridgerator or something!
If it is something rally big the truck calls a pick-up truck thing and they get it later.
They are sticklers with the 10 item rule.. I guess because they do really take everything anytime. So each rolled and tied up thing of carpet is 1 piece... they will leave you a note if you do more (this has happened to us!)

Also - I think Carpet has to be cut so its not wider than 4ft. The details should be on the TOB website.

Up to 10 pieces. Rolled AND tied no longer than 4ft long. Not more than 50 Lbs each with a total of 200 Lbs for the whole thing. INCLUDES your garbage cans too for that day.

Re: town of oyster bay sanitation

My TOB garbage guys take literally anything i throw out there. With minimal "prep" too. They are great! Way better than Town of Hempstead.

Just throw the stuff out there. If it's carpet, I would tie it. If they don't take it, then maybe tie it better.

They are really great! My parents live in the Town of North Hempstead and you can only put big things out on "bulk" days. We did major construction and they took things that most would require a dumpster for.

They will take anything. We threw out an 8x10 area rug just rolled up with duct tape holding it together and they took it. We also threw out a big 2 piece leather sectional and they just tossed it into the truck and crushed it.

Re: town of oyster bay sanitation

we have slowly been throwing out all our molding, carpeting, etc from the house with the regular garbage. DH did cut up and then tied together pieces of carpet and put it by the curb. they took it all!
