Re: As much info on Holbrook WANTED

I rented in Holbrook and loved living there. It's so close to everything. The only reason we didn't end up buying there is the taxes were more than we wanted to pay. But I think they are reasonable, it's just with the housing prices at that time, we couldn't afford both.

Re: As much info on Holbrook WANTED

JMO but I think that town has a pretty bad drug problem. One of our friends rented there for a little bit and her boyfriend said it was really bad with heroin and pills. He always said there are a lot of drug dealers in the area (i guess he'd know because now he's in rehab for heroin use)

I've been pulled over twice by detectives around the corner from her house (which has never happened to me anywhere else). They were just doing their jobs but driving a nice car with shiny rims and tint doesn't make me a dealer. I won't even drive through there at night anymore.

So I wouldn't recommend the area . it is very convenient though because its close to the LIE

You could easily say this about Smithtown, too, and I wouldn't consider that a bad neighborhood. Sadly, there's a rampant heroin problem in a lot of places on LI.

Re: As much info on Holbrook WANTED

I lived in Holbrook for 23 years and most of my family still lives there. The school district has basically been broken in 2 districts instead of pne huge one. There are now two separate 4 year high schools instead of 9&10 in one school and 11&12 in the other. It is also a fairly large town. So as for the drug problem it may depend on where you are. The worst I have seen is the kid across the street from me was a pot dealer. I can't speak for other areas but I know where I grew up was always quiet and safe. We had no problem driving new cars with shiny rims or walking around after dark. I am not being snarky to the other poster just providing a different point of view.
If you have any questions please fm me. I have lived in Holbrook all but 6 years of my life. Again I can't speak for all areas but can for mine

I live farther out east now... but I used to work in Smithtown. IMO Holbrook is worse. The OP asked for info on Holbrook. I gave her my opinion about that town. I could say the same thing about a lot of towns on LI ... but the OP only asked about Holbrook.

I wouldn't generalize a whole area (and Holbrook is pretty big) because of just your experience. I grew up there and my parents and inlaws live there and have never heard of such a thing. Its a great community, close to everything, and I would live there in a second. Not sure what neighborhood you are talking about though.

I just want to add that my escalade has very dark tint (my friends all say it looks like it belongs to p diddy). So, I understand why the detectives pull me over... but it's enough to make me not want to deal with the hassle of driving through there at night (I didn't mean it to sound like I won't drive through there because it's dangerous... it's just a hassle to be pulled over). The only reason I mentioned being pulled over is because it hasn't happened anywhere else and the increase presence of detectives looking for drugs in that area... probably means they know there are a lot drugs there.

The OP asked for info... I offered what I know about the area. I didn't realize she only asked for good feedback. My mistake.

almost every town on LI has a herion problem. its almost like the better the town the bigger the problem

I would just do my research and make sure you know the neighboorhood you are buying into. some of the roads off the service rd are a little run down, also near the park and ride. we looked at a house over there and didn't like it. its also easy access to rob houses and make a quick get a way

I have lived here 9 years and I have driven expensive trucks with tinted windows and have never been pulled over once. I have never once feared for my safety. I think you have to live in an area for years to really be able to give an educated answer about it.......

Really? Could you FM me the street because while there are always a bunch of bad apples in the bunch, I have to say that there are no "bad" areas of Holbrook.
Thanks.

I do agree that on the North side it is older and more run down.

I think the problem is that the poster asked about living there and you have not actually lived there to give an opinion other than what you have "heard".

Check this out and it will tell you a little more about Holbrook:

I didn't see anything in the OP about living there... just asking for info about the town. I only said what I heard from my friends BF who lived there with her and my experiences driving to/from her house.

Members of this site always get bent out of shape when you say something bad about where they live... there was a thread on here a few months ago about Mastic. The people that live there think its a great town... but a lot of people would stay away from there.

I know when I post asking for info... I like to get opinions from all sides.

If I personally was asking for advice, I would want it from someone who either lived in the area or knew the area very well. Sorry :(

I got pulled over by Butcher Boy's when I was younger. The cop wanted to tell me how nice I stopped at the stop sign Chat Icon Chat Icon This same cop pulled me over a few times for silly things like that. But I don't think he was interested in my driving Chat Icon I have to admit I sh!t a brick every time I saw the lights go on behind me. That's my only personal experience with being pulled over. But there is also a cop that likes to sit at one of the stop signs at the end of the month and nail people. Once he had 3 people pulled over at once. Chat Icon It was always fun to sit in the living room and watch the show.

Re: As much info on Holbrook WANTED

We almost bought a house in Holbrook. Loved the area but the house just was too close to the fire department and some other issues.
The other thing that made us end up deciding against Holbrook too was that we thought the air traffic from ISP was a bit much....but that was just our opinion.
