Help... we need a new vacuum ..*UPDATE*

Every vacuum I touch manages to break- I have had expensive ones and cheap ones- this time DH was vacuuming and it broke on him... not me this time.... LOL Anyway, we had a Eureka and the motor is dead. We are getting our $$ back, we got it from QVC. I need a vacuum, I do not want to spend hundreds of dollars on a vacuum. Any suggestions, pics ? We have a gift card to Sears so we were thinking of going there. I am looking for something with good suction and not too heavy. TIA!

Sorry I have not been on in a few days since I wrote this post. We went to Sears and walked right out, the "kid" who was trying to sell us a vacuum was a college student who knew NOTHING. You can tell he was just trying to make a sale- maybe they get commission- I am not sure. So we went to bed bath and beyond only to not find a salesperson to help us and there were maybe 6 vacuums to choose from. We walked right out and went to PC Richards in Bellmore which the salesperson was not too helpful so we went to the Carle Place one and had a WONDERFUL experience there. They let us try the vacuums out , educated us a bit and we got a Hoover windtunnel upright, bagless. We got the latest model (2009) , we took out a 2 yr warranty on it, and I asked if they could do better on the price and we got some $$ off on top of it. That was our vacuum experience. Thank you again for all of you replies and help!

My husband gets those consumer reports magazines and the kenmore vacuums from sears always get really great reviews.

We just bought a great one at Sears...consumer reports supposedly ranked it #1. Kenmore Progressive with Direct Drive. I am very happy with it. Cost about $200ish.

I have a kenmore progressive canister vacuum from sears and love it. Works great on carpets and my laminate floor. I've had it for a few years and it's held up well.

Another Kenmore Progressive Canister owner here. Very good vacuum. I'm thinking of having one up stairs and one down.

The canisters are a bit of a pain but they do a great job and I think if you compare the uprights and canisters, the canisters have a lot more pros.

you have to explain if you like a canister vacuum or an upright? hardwood or carpet, or both? tile? do tell...

DH HATES canisters, i don't mind them. i got a Dyson now and still can't believe how much it picked up (Still would if it wasn't in storage).

after you give us that info, i think i could help you a little bit more??

I havent really done too much research on vaccums, but I love mine, its the Bissel for pet hair. I've had it for 4 years and it still picks up great.
